Question about Beta to Patch

Post by AaronGordon »

I know the BETA is going to end here soon. I have to say which is very unfortunate.

I played with some new people, that was fun to meet and play along with. I also met new people and found out new things from them. Also new strategies and ways for me to have more fun playing as a Insurgent.

However, this is my question, I have to ask; can you please allow the Beta to run until the patch? Meaning somehow just run the servers and have them restart if bugs and just report them. Then you guys release a patch when you feel comfortable.

We then could all play the new v 1.0 beta, which I love and assume most of everyone else, and you guys could find more bugs, then release 'em.

I do not have the knowledge that you guys do about running the servers and the BETA. However just restart them if they get a bug and report. Then you guys fix for the upcoming patch.

Question (basically): Can you allow us to play the Beta while you release the patch (reminding that you just restart and reports bugs and fix for release)?

Sincerely,
Aaron_Gordon,
huge fan and love the beta, dont want to switch back to v .98

In a word, the answer will be no.

The main aim of the beta (as far as I can gather) was to test the capabilities of the 100p servers and client side code and see what major bugs would need to be addressed before full release. The fundamental point of this beta was to stress test, try and break it as much as possible in 7 days and gather as much data as possible. I'm pretty sure that this objective has been achieved. If the Devs think otherwise, they'll keep the beta open for as long as they need to, and probably no longer.

What you're essentially asking for is for the Beta to turn into 1.0 lite. Things just don't work that way usually i'm afraid! Whilst we'd all like to keep playing 1.0 from now on, this wasn't a promo exercise (although the PR that was stirred up by the release will have helped the mod no end), nor was it designed to be a showcase of 1.0's features. But because the devs are such lovely people, they have given you a glimpse of what is to come.

Be thankful for what you have had and don't ask for more. The patient bear has had an appetizer. He will still be patient...

They would have to continue being admins instead of working on final release, paying for the servers, etc. I want 1.0 to stick around more than anything but it probably isn't going to happen. So better they get back to polishing the final product and we go back to knifing fobs and C4 caches from Hueys for a bit.

They're right, I'm sorry. The Beta is scheduled to end this weekend, and until the release, there is no plan to offer anything beyond .98 for you guys. We don't have the manpower to work on the release and have a beta (with our servers, administration, making patches, keeping mumble up, etc)

Also, 1.0 Full will not be a patch. You'll have to download a new installer, it'll be in a new folder, and everything.
