Re: FPS Issues
Okay I'm definitely running the game EXE itself with the NVIDIA card and I'm still getting fps drops to below 20 with the same frequency.

Re: FPS Issues
Are you still having the previous problem you were talking about with it switching to the Intel HD graphics chipset? If you aren't what graphics settings are you trying to play at?Kothra wrote:Okay I'm definitely running the game EXE itself with the NVIDIA card and I'm still getting fps drops to below 20 with the same frequency.

Re: FPS Issues
I don't think I'm really having that problem with the switching anymore, but I'm still not sure. The NVIDIA monitor thing in the task tray says the game is running on the GT 525M.
I'm running it on all high but if that were really the problem then I think I'd be having FPS drops much more often. I think it's related more to nearby/concentration of players than the graphics power.
Though I don't recall having problems like this at all with the 100+ player tests before.
EDIT: Okay, I know for sure that the launcher is running on the NVIDIA as well, because even though it says "Generic PnP Monitor on Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000" for Display Device, the other display information given is that of the GT 525M.

Re: FPS Issues
It is most likely bogging down in certain areas and gets worse when there are more people. The GT 525m has really low pixel and texture fill rate as well as a low memory bandwidth so you will need to play with the graphics a bit to get it to run smooth. Just because it runs smooth in a big open desert doesn't mean it can in a city full of objects.Kothra wrote:I don't think I'm really having that problem with the switching anymore, but I'm still not sure. When you run PR can you keep a monitoring program open and check how much of your GPU power is being used while playing in different areas?
Best chance is to play with the graphics settings until you get a stable fps. I was getting like 25-30 fps in the city in black gold until i changed my Anti-Aliasing from 8X to 4X. It went to a stable 40-45 fps just from that.

What's a good program to use?
And I still had absolutely no problems in previous versions, but I guess stuff changed.

Well there is still going to be optimizations for the final release i would think so it will get better.Kothra wrote:What's a good program to use?

The program I'm using is EVGA Precision X. You can install it and right click at the bottom area of the window to open your properties and change the monitoring settings. Make sure GPU usage is enabled.
Then right click the little GPU usage window at the bottom of EVGA Precision X before you start playing and click "Log History To File".

Re: FPS Issues
Maan this is so frustrating. After some playing I noticed that frames drop the same on every map. As soon as you get close to the main battle and look into its direction, frames go down to 25-30 ...thats just unplayable.
I will have to lower video settings, which is really ridiculous and humiliating with my high-end setup...I am wondering if anyone is actually able to play the game on high settings with constant >50 FPS ... what setup would you need for that? 2x Nvidia GTX Titan, 2x 8Ghz OC CPU?

Re: FPS Issues
I was playing on medium settings and I was getting around 15 fps is I was lucky, and after the last update I'm lucky to get anywhere above 8 :/ at this point arma runs better on my laptop than pr 1.0 beta does, its is literally unplayable, which depresses me if it does not get better, means no more pr for me after the 1.0 release :'(
As a side note I switched to lower graphics and the problem got worse, wtf?

Re: FPS Issues
I'm on all high settings and i get an average of 45 fps. The only real exceptions are the city in black gold where i get 40 fps and the militia fortress on fools road. I get 30 fps there. But i had to turn my Anti-Aliasing down to 4X. On 8X Anti-Aliasing i get an average of 30 fps.
Ive just got an old GTX 260 55nm as far as the GPU goes. With 8GB 1800Mhz ram and an AMD FX-4170 4.2Ghz budget quad core i got on sale for 90$. Not sure how i am beating out people with i7's and 6 series Nvidia cards unless everyone is trying for that extra 8X AA.

It's better after PR Launcher polish, but still not nearly as good as in 0.98.

PLODDITHANLEY, ur 4 MB RAM r impossible, u mean 4 GB, right? Btw, GeForce 9600 GT is quite outdated... Suggest u to get a new (gaming-) laptop... :/

Stop suggesting people to get better hardware. If they could/ would have interest in they would already. This is a thread about making 1.0 better optimized, not us upgrading our computers.Daniel wrote:PLODDITHANLEY, ur 4 MB RAM r impossible, u mean 4 GB, right? Btw, GeForce 9600 GT is quite outdated... Re: FPS Issues
I wonder if the cons may outweigh the pros when forcing everyone onto higher settings. I can understand the low quality terrain issue where you can sometimes see people through the terrain at long distances, and that a low quality undergrowth layer could reveal some people on higher settings that think they should be hidden, but is it worth it if forcing people onto higher settings means some people (what percentage?) are then no longer able to play?
I'm not saying I know the answer to that, one way the other, but it should be considered properly I think.
Either way, I hope the devs don't go getting lazy and give up on optimising things just because it happens to run sweet on their 6-core, SLI systems. The best software is often that which is powerful, yet efficient at the same time, because at the end of the day it's the end user that judges it, and if it doesn't feel nice to use, it won't be so well liked, no matter what it does.

I'm on a poor duo core, son (like many others). Heck yes do we care about optimization.

Re: FPS Issues
There will obviously be optimizations to come for release but there is a limit to what they can do. Everyone always wants the game to look and feel better and it doesn't come without a price, the better they get it to look the more likely it is to require faster systems.Boris wrote:I wonder if the cons may outweigh the pros when forcing everyone onto higher settings.
