Small flags, spraypaint for marking IEDs?
Since the IED danger is getting way bigger in PR1.0 with the new better hidden IEDs I think that road-clearance / EOD-units will play a bigger role in the next release. I tried to do this before and mines are easily to take care of but sometimes you really need to be able to place visible markings for vehicles and personal instead of some marker on the map. So for this I suggest something to mark IEDs with, the insurgents will get a pile of stones. For the BLUFOR I suggest some kind of small flag like in FH2 or spray paint to mark the position of the IED, or anything else well visible for people on the ground.
What are the benefits from this? People will see this earlier than a mine marker on the map. And it gives more opportunities for the engineers to do their jobs. Sometimes you will run into small minefields, with this markings you can for example mark the clear area through the minefield so vehicles and personal can go through this corridor while you clear the rest of the minefield.

As far as I know neither in PR nor in FH there is a system to mark ENEMY mines for the engineer. You are allowed to mark friendly mines only. Additionally, I have never encountered someone marking enemy mines or booby traps - usually players rush through them dying and cleaning the path simultaneously.
But perhaps this feature will revolutionize the players mind from rush&die to proceed slowly?

I agree, anything to make EOD easier in PR (points for clearing IEDs would be nice as well).

That's only for OPFOR my suggestion is meant for the BLUFOR.camo_jnr_jnr wrote:Anyone for a glass of homemade explosives? - Project Reality Forums

Re: Small flags, spraypaint for marking IEDs?
i think its not really worth it because usually bluefor forces irl just clear the mine or ied instead of putting a little flag/paint above it. I know you often see the mine clearer's and point men spray painting the ground but honestly its just not worth the animation/texture or time spent to add a little indication when you could just mark it on your map or simply get a combat engi kit. If people say they don't look at the map then it's their fault, an automatically updated map seen by everyone is an amazing tool that they don't yet have fully implemented in real life so players actually have it much easier than real soldiers on the ground. Good idea i just don't think its worth the time spent needed to implement it. (unless you do it yourself)B.Pronk(NL) wrote:That's only for OPFOR my suggestion is meant for the BLUFOR.

I think you are wrong, ISAF forces in real life often clear it when they get the chance to. There are also many occasions where they would just mark it and move further on to let EOD units deal with it. In my opinion a visible marker is way more realistic than some marker on the map, plus that it is more useful. I hope to soon what the DEVs think about it.

Well, the flags could be placed down in a similar fashion to tripnades/flares, no real animation needed, and just stay there infinitely I guess? Or maybe have them as a mine themselves that "detonates" when a vehicle is within the radius of an actual mine. Giving them to Officers and maybe Spotters would probably be a good idea, as well as combat engie but as said, he can just disarm the mine.

You can pull out your own mine and put a marker over the enemy one so it shows on the map. Now that we have a rock to mark things it's even easier. I've also seen SL's mark enemy mines countless times.a3dboy1 wrote:As far as I know neither in PR nor in FH there is a system to mark ENEMY mines for the engineer. I think its a beginning to a great new part of the game, it is where we can add EOD forces and route clearnece, possibly paving the way for MRAPs It would require more teamwork and communication

Still wouldn't help much.
Since people are still un-educated enough to know that to look on their map for FRIENDLY MINES.
A couple hours ago I was on ramiel some dude got like 9 tk's in a match from the IED's... clearly marked on the map lul!

We are not talking about that kind of flags gx, we are talking about ways for the BLUFOR to mark IEDs and by that I don't mean mine markers on the map.
We are staying up!
