CSB Truck Deployment

Hey all,

I've had a few complaints about one new feature in particular and that is that some people don't like that CSBs can in v1.0 be deployed from anywhere around the truck and not just off the back like in previous versions.

The argument is that not only is this less immersive since trucks that can deploy bridges can only off the back (although "AVLBs" can deploy them off the front), but it also can result in you more easily deploying the bridge in a spot you didn't want to, if your truck was a tiny bit closer to another CSB section, which mainly happens when doing "over bridging", ie, putting a CSB over a damaged road bridge that has many possible CSB deployment zones for every possible section that could be blown up.

This change to make the CSBs deploy off both sides of a truck was made due to people complaining that it was too hard to deploy them off the back, especially when deploying them over rivers that required multiple sections.

So here is a quick poll and discussion topic on the matter to see how many people really have a problem with having to deploy CSBs off the back and if the majority want them only deployed off the back then we will happily revert the change

I think front/rear are fine, if it's rear only, no one will continue to use them. If it's every side then it's unfair for people trying to ambush the logi getting in position as the logi wont have to get in position anymore

I actually used CSBs on fools road for once, what is kinda different though is the delay on the bridge being deployed, it seems a little long - but you could just put it in a manual or new loading tip that it takes X amount of seconds for the bridge to come out the front/back /runonsentence

the middle part doesnt let you fall through but you still wedge pretty easily there

Rear side only because it creates immersion and makes you feel like you're actually building something instead of driving up to a river and "poof" a magical bridge appears.

IRL you dont set up a fully operational firebase within a couple of seconds with a couple of waves with your shovel however we have that in PR to make you FEEL that you are actually doing it. I think the same should apply to bridges.

God forbid we implement something into this game that requires skill and practice...

EDIT: I think that the 2 CSB's per logi and the new "anti bouncing" updates are enough. they promote gameplay and realism respectively.

I voted for "Rear only".

As mentioned above by Brooklyn-Tech and rPoXoTauJIo, 2 CSBs should do a trick now.

The only thing left is a notification that truck was positioned correctly and bridge is actually building (perhaps, information how many sec left could be great too).

The time it takes to build a bridge is somewhat random, as basically how its coded to not strain the server is that the python code checks every single possible CSB location on the every 10seconds or so during the game to see if their is a "CSB Crate" deployed near it, if it is then it builds the CSB. So if you've just missed the last check, you need to wait 9secs or w/e until the next check, but sometimes you can deploy like 1sec before the checking interval which means it only takes 1sec for it to pop up, although think there is a slight delay on top of the checked and confirmed there is a crate by xxx CSB until its built too but not sure about that bit

So having a notification/timer etc isn't going to happen.

Rhino you mention that the previous version only could deploy from the rear? Several times in 0.981 I have deployed it from the front by going right to the edge.

However I voted for the rear only as it is more realistic. Going backwards is not that much more difficult than going forward anyway and since you have to reverse one of the ways anyway it makes no difference.

The double CSB is a good addition and makes it much more doable to complete a bridge.

Very interesting on picking up how the bridges work, from learning they're always there and now you explain how they're made to appear, never understood why the pre placed earth mounds were there before....

I like rear, as others have said looks and feels better, but as its a fairly rarely used thing it should be as easy as possible for players that don't know about C in a truck, but then again they might not Know about the possible locations either....

TBH I haven't yet had an opportunity to deploy a multi span bridge since you made them a bit less easy to fall of, but I do remember how tricky it was reversing to deploy a second one before. To the guys that have is it within the grasp of an average player to reverse on the new sections now?

Ye, I've seen them being used more this release thou, even in areas where they didn't really need to be used hehe.

Saw a tank crossing it later too

The truck that was deploying them was also doing it off the rear.
