No, the game Bf2 will still be needed, and it is not free atm.
However, the modification PR 1.0 will be free.

It needs Battlefield 2 to run, which is not free. But you can easily obtain it from either Steam or Origin. Retail might be very tough, though.

Kidding aside, OP, the mod is free, the game that it is built on, is not.

After playing it all this time would you think 20 measily bucks is too much? Thats like 4 pints. Why worry about 20 bucks? I feel devs should not make it free to play. You spent money on a rig, you should have a couple of bucks left over to play the game and its a game that lasts you a long time if you enjoy it.
