Did I just kill my computer?
I decided to clean my computer yesterday. Simply removing dust with compressed air and adding new thermal paste on the CPU. After doing so I put the parts carefully together and booted the computer. All the fans run normal, but I get no connection between the computer and the monitor. I've checked the cables and tried different monitors without any luck. I have also removed the graphics card and used the integrated VGA, that didn't work either. Today I removed everything, having only the motherboard and a lot of parts. I followed the motherboard's manual and put it all back together. On boot I still have the same problem - fans running normal, but no signal for the monitor.
Have I done goofed and killed my motherboard or CPU?

Did you try the old "remove power cable then hold down power button for 60 seconds" thing?

Yes I did, no luck. I also reset [insert name here] by changing the position of a small thingy, then back again, as well as removing the computer's battery.'[508th_PIR wrote: Grey;1916885']Did you try the old "remove power cable then hold down power button for 60 seconds" thing?

What model motherboard?
Find the error codes for either the flashing lights or beep codes, and work from there.
Probably in your motherboard manual, but with he exact model number, you might be able to find some exact online discussion on this error for the motherboard model series.

Re: Did I just kill my computer?
This is sort of bugging me, as I went through exactly the same situation several months ago. Cleaned and rewired my PC and installed a new outflow fan. Afterwards, everything seemed normal except for a black display. The part that is bugging me is that I can't remember what the fix was. I know it wasn't the capacitor drain trick that fixed it, I just mentioned it because it's a known cause and easy to do.
LITOralis has you on the right track, though. I highly doubt that you bricked your mobo. Good luck!

I don't know what else to suggest. Could also be your RAM that's busted.

Yeah I've read about that on another website. I will be getting a new computer soon'ish, but it still sucks being stuck with a laptop until then, especially when I don't know what's happened with my desktop.classicmax wrote:I don't know what else to suggest. Could also be your RAM that's busted.

I know that feel. My regular PC just died 2 nights ago because my PSU overheated. Right now I'm forced to play PR at 15fps with this shitbox of a PC while I wait for my new power supply

Re: Did I just kill my computer?
have you tried 1 stick of ram (assuming 2) at a time?? Or trying the integrated GPU after pressing the CMOS reset button??

Re: Did I just kill my computer?
Another thing to try, pull all RAM and boot without it, shut down, reinstall RAM, then boot again.
Your mobo's lack of diagnostic LED/RAM test/etc puts us at a disadvantage, unfortunately.
