Let's start a discussion about the Normandyan disembarkation in what I'd like to hear alse your ideas...

So I created this page because everybody is looking at the actual amphibious operation as a mirracle from the Allied Forces as me but today I read a WW2 book about the Battle of Britain.
So after the german succes in '39 ,the attention was concerted into the British Island ,but Churcill did not surrender.Hitler preparated the Operation "Sea-Lion" ,which included a 250.000 german raid with 10.000 tanks and many planes into British plates ,but the leadership considered it to risky ,while they dont win the air (and) naval virtue.
10.000 Airplane mainly from N-France,Belgium,Netherlans and Norway were ready to attack Britain , which began at 1940 Aug.
Goritz ,German Airforce's Commander were sure in succes but didn't count with bad luck.
First main problem from german side was that they didn't used Heavy Bombers just Medium ones ; the Messerschmitt He 109,101 which were protected by hunterplanes.
The british Defiant,Hurricanne were weaker but the Spitfire was a hard contact for the german pilots.The RAF (Royal Air Force) pilots were so entusiants at defending that if they were shoted ,opened the parachute and transported or runned to the nearest RAF basis and hopped in the first plane to will in action.
RAF pilots were unwavering but the germans gloryously exagerated the shoted planes...

The main (frustrating) anchor comed when some stray german bombers didnt found theirs destination a harbour ,but dropped their mass into London's downtown.
Next day british bomers raided Berlin , in which case the Fuhrer becomed So nervous that he ordonned the all Forces to bomb London.
This naiv order was accepted? by the german leadership hopping ,(which is a wekaness in the warfare ) that the ruins of the RAF will be "royal" and will rout itself defending the capital ,the people...
In the time the british repared the RAF,radio,radar bases and striked back with a new force...while the tired german bombing mission was ruined ,when 100 german planes were shoten and british had the advance...they retrited.
From that they the future of the war changed a total route ,who had the aerian (and) naval advance could disembark on the enemy land and win all.
Here a few good words from GRRM ; "If you play the game of thrones you win or you die ,and no medium way".

Cyrus

Astyages, king of Medes, had a dream that one of his grandsons would kill him, take over his empire and eventually make it bigger. Astyages being scared by it ordered that his grandson, named Cyrus, should be killed. He ordered an official named Harpagus to kill the newborn, Harpagus couldn't do and changed the kid with a dead newborn from a countryside family.

Years went by and Cyrus grew older and eventually came to know that he's the heir of Astyages.
Astyages came to know that Cyrus was not dead and met the boy. Astyages ordered Harpagus to explain what he had done with the baby, and, after Harpagus confessed that he had not killed the boy, Astyages tricked him into eating his own broiled and chopped up son.

As Cyrus' father died (his father was a local governer), he succeded the thrown. Harpagus, seeking for revenge, convinced Cyrus to overthrow Astyages. Cyrus accepted the plan, and so became Cyrus the king of al Medes and Persians.




Croesos

Astyages was married to the sister of the king Lydian Empire, named Croesos. Croesos was a very wealthy man. After the death of Astyages he wanted to take advantage of the situation and take over the Persian/Median Empire, now controlled by Cyrus. Croesos visited an oracle and asked what would happen if he would start a war. The Magi replied: "a big empire will crumble". Croesos being overhelmenly happy (the oracle didn't mention who's empire would crumble), signed treaties and made alliances with Egypt, Sparta and Babylonia launched an attack on the empire of Cyrus.

When winter came Croesos disbanded his army (this was done often in that time), but Cyrus didn't. Cyrus besieged Sardes, the capital of the Lydian Empire. After a couple of weeks Croesos gave up and was sentenced to be tortured and killed on the stake. Whilst being almost burned Croesos started yelling: "Solon, Solon, Solon!". Cyrus wanted to know who or what 'Solon' was, Croesos answered: "He was a man that should've speak with all kings and rulers of the world, I would give up everything for that".
The confused and intrueged Cyrus ordered to get Croesos of the burning stake, and so it happened (with the intervention of Apollo).


Flashback to couple of months earlier.

Solon

Solon was a wise man from Athens. One day he visits Lydia and has a conversation with Croesos. Croesus asks Solon if he had "ever seen greater opulence than his own", on which Solon replies: "Peacocks are incomparable in their beauty.". Croesus disagrees, and he tries to impress Solon with a list of vanquished foes and claimed territories. Solon still disagrees, telling Croesus that the happiest man he had ever met was a peasant in Athens. He explains that the peasant worked hard, raised a family, and was content with what he had. Croesus takes this as an insult and Solon leaves.

Soon after Solon's departure, tragedy befalls Croesus. His oldest son is killed in a hunting accident, and then Emperor Cyrus invades. Cyrus' army is triumphant, and Croesus' kingdom is ravaged and Croesus himself is captured and ordered to be executed. As Croesus is about to be burned on a pyre, he cries out Solon's name. Cyrus stops the pyre to hear what Croesus has to say. Croesus relates Solon's story to Cyrus, and Cyrus is moved by the notion that Fate can bring misery to a rich man and happiness to a poor man. Croesus is freed and the emperor and the king become good friends.
