Nice. Looks a very slight bit like my map, and has the same concept, although you probably had it first, but I'm glad it doesn't have the same gameplay elements as my map.

Not to be picky or anything, but I don't recommend using those free online translators. I burst to tears laughing when my friend translated a Chinese project into English once. You go lucky though, and everything was translated correctly except "Sunset City". Although what you used is correct in some way, it sounds awkward. "Ri Luo Cheng Shi" Is four syllables, and ri luo is not used that often for sunset. Chinese city names usually have two or three syllables, like people's names. I would suggest using "Xia Shan Cheng (下山城)".

For any other names, especially improper nouns, Chinese like to use four syllable expressions. So Hardware Store is actually "Xiao Yong Shang Dian".

Aside from that, nice!

wow, finally, an PLA city map. awesome!

And good job disguising the middle eastern cities with all the chinese signs. great job.

But I thought you couldn't mix elements from the PLA maps with those of MEC maps? I'm glad you did though

cheers guys, your comments make the months of work worth it :)

Yep these are all in a new skin pack developed by the talented matt b, and yes you can use any combination of statics in your map but you have to make sure the little bugger does not lag. In this map we have MEC and PLA statics, lots of superb PR custom statics, and shed loads of custom statics. Needless to say the first test release ran ok for most but on machines with 1gb of ram lagged like a *****.

So i went back to the drawing board to make it run on a base machine. I used the girlfreinds 1gb, 6600gt, 2800 celeron unit and got it running at the fps she gets on karkand.

If you notice in the top left corner is the FPS on my machine which runs between 60-100, a 3500 64 amd, 2gb ram, 6800gt card, 1280x1024 with everything on full.

The city has been redesigned a number of times as i started this map many months ago and put it down while i learnt model, then a pc crash/rebuild, then went back to work on it. The break was a good thing as the first couple of city designs were pap tbh. The plan was to get the baby finished ready in time for the next PR release which i have hopefully done :)

one part of mapping is considering every system that is going to run the map. We need to keep all maps to a standard so that all systems that can play the original game can also play our game.

Not every one has the money to buy a decent system and we would loose players from a result of making a laggy map, either what would happen is the map itself will hardly be played by a large amount of people, or the ppl that play it and lag will just think our mod is shit.

say hello to my 512 ram ddr333
i promise it runs PR fine, i have a HD SATA that helps a lot. no long waits or shitty swaps, no need to buy more for the gpu i have (9600pro 256/128 400/400). i run terrain/geometry/textures/effects on medium and the rest on low. 1024x768 and anti-aliasing 2x. 30fps average (some maps 40) -> satisfied for now

tbh very little settings were change...well nothing you would notice but the changes i made made a drastic change in the fps. It was mainly down to undergrowth/overgrowth draw distances, bringing the fog in and view distance in. But it doubled the fps on the machine it was running on. So its all good :)

So aren't you going to do something about the name and the text inaccuracies?
