The points system

Post by plyrkiller99 »

alright, so after a looong break I jumped onto PR yesterday on the CIA Server, played about 2 matches as a squad member and the rest as as squad leader. And in most rounds my squad was noted as the top squad with the most points, how are the points calculated.. it really confused me as i'm not exactly the greatest PR player

Don't worry about it. It's a team game, only things that really matters are what side won, did you have a good experience and do you want to squad up with the same guys next round.

The winrate was about 50/50, after a while the CIA guys grouped up and destroyed us. The burning sands map was a disaster. and I did have a good time but I preferred to have different squad members each round

I think score and teamwork score should be removed.

Whichever team works as a team, there be the victor!

Long break and returning to CIA server is a recipe for disaster, try NWA /PRTA servers they provide much better quality also 3dac can be quite good.

My experience on CIA varies, sometimes I have been met with abuse just for being English.

Other times I have had nice games even when losing but still satisfied with the teamwork.

Stop! No server discussion. Talk about score, please.

i think kills should take less importance and only showed at the end of a round.

Score seems fiddly to set up though, it'd be impossible to have a score for leadership or tactics..

plyrkiller, as noone really answered yet I'll give it a shot:

Your squad earns points for building FOBs for instance. For every FOB you build EVERYONE in the squad will get 100 points. Even if they didn't participate shoveling. Although actively shoveling gets you some more points.

Members gain points for various stuff, for instance killing dudes, vehicles, etc. Also for being close to each other (which is the worst imo but that would lead to a "tactic discussion" so w/e).

Points are given for reviving and healing people, dropping ammo, being the driver of a vehicle (that is why 1 driver and 1 gunner in an APC can actually make topsquad even with well performing 6men Inf squads on the team) etc. peh peh.

-----

But yeah, as being said. The points do not necessarily show "which was the most valuable squad" as points could never properly reward the squad that took down THE enemy FOB that allowed your team to finally get that next flag and win the round, for instance. Or that 1 guy that kills the enemy TOW operator in order for your tank to move in and clear the path. The gameplay is way too complicated and "multi layered" to represent it with a simple point system!

After a while you (especially as an SL) you will get a sense for who is doing well and who is just wasting everyones time. You hear them talking on mumble and talk to them (or not, depending), listen to their plans, check the minimap to see them all dying again, etc.

If you and your squad do well, people will notice!

------------

Anyway, glad to see you returning after that looong break. Hope you have fun and stay around as a SL once 1.0 gets released! We need SLs that care more than anything in this community!!

Well sl'ing is the thing I absolutely adore doing, I guess i have a leadership complex.. I used to play in a hardcore ARMA community which was even more extreme than this so sl'ing in this isn't as much as a stress as that, back onto the score topic. I agree with the statement on the complexity layers, there's too much to calculate but I believe there should be more points rewarded for destroying vital assets.

Generally I would agree. But imagine there is a super annoying tank over on the other hill, killing everyone around you. And then you go ahead and HAT the tanks front. You don't kill it but make it smoke heavily and force it to go home and stop the madness.

Did you just prove yourself to be a valuable player in that situation?
Sure you did!
But do you want to have points for that, damaging a tank?
Sure you do!
But do you want DEVs to spend their valuable time on sth. like that?
Well, I don't. Cause points don't matter what.so.ever.

As I said, people WILL know about it anyway. Everyone that was shot by that tank will open their scoreboard and check who has the HAT atm and who was the guy making it retreat and therefore allowing their medic to give them a revive! At least I do that...

Points are good for metadata but they don't paint the whole picture. If the people that play on a server day in and day out could score each player based on their contributions, that would be ideal. Tactical Gamer has a great system whereby players can nominate others for awards, medals and ribbons for actions in the field. This is a far better point system then the in game one, imo, at least as far as recognizing individual achievements.
