Mumble Overlay Windows 8 Fix

Hi!

I think I have a solution to the Windows 8 mumble overlay problem.

Guide to fix it:

1. Shut down PR Mumble.
2. Go to your PR Mumble folder - mine was in ("C:\Program Files (x86)\PR Mumble").
3. Rename the file named mumble_ol.dll to mumble_ol_backup.dll (if the fix does not work I recommend switching back to this file)
4. Copy the file from the link below to the PR Mumble folder. Effectively replacing the file that you renamed (the new file should be named mumble_ol.dll). (If you download the .zip remember to unzip it)
5. EDIT: See my next post in this tread, new instructions from here.

This worked for me!

If anyone else on Windows 8 can try this fix and confirm it works, that would be ace!


This is the mumble_ol.dll from the latest Snapshot build of Mumble (2013-06-12), the same file is attached as a .zip if my link dies in the future.

Doesn't work for me, still no overlay. I've heard of it working for others though, so it could likely be something else on my end apart from the OS.

It did not work for me either, after a reboot. So I did try some more.

Try this. Drownload the latest mumble snapshot from here: http://mumble.info/snapshot/mumble-1.2. ... 7c78b1.msi

Apply the fix in the original post, BUT! disregard steps 5, 6, 7.

Start Mumble Snapshot instance first (not as admin). Then start PR bf2 (The Overlay should appear if you connect to any mumble server, top right is the standard). Then Start PR Mumble. Shut down Snapshot Mumble, and alt tab into the game. Tada!?. This worked for me.

I'm not entirely sure why though.

You should be able to use the -m command line switch on your regular mumble 1.2.4.X snapshot mumble.exe shortcut

I have windows 7 X64 , but the Mumble shortcut should be switched like this, adjusted for windows 8:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mumble\mumble.exe" -m

And your PRMumble shortcut should be switched like this, adjusted for windows 8: (this is the default shortcut when you install PRMumble 1.0.0.4 Beta, I'm jsut reiterating this in case anyone manually altered it...)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\PR Mumble\pr_mumble.exe" mumble://mumble.realitymod.com:64739/?version=1.2.0 -m

I recently installed win8 on an old PC here, will test this out when I get a chance.

Ah, the -m (Start multiple mumble instances at the same time) should not matter. It does not detect PR Mumble as conflicting. At least not on my system.

And the PR Mumble shortcut you provided is the standard from the shorctut from the installation of PR Mumble.

I run PR Mumble "as admin" and with -m startup flag and PR also "as admin".
