[Community-Task] Present PR 1.0 in the best light!

Post by Nate. »

Hello Community!

In my opinion, the beta was a big clusterfuck most of the times regarding teamplay, communications and overall gameplay.

With the pending release of 1.0 and propably many new and old players joining, I want to encourage everyone to show 'our' game from it's best side - by bringing in loads and loads of teamwork, friendliness, helpfulness and maturity!

This is not a task just for server admins to do (especially with 100 players), but for every player that has already played Project Reality. You have all the time of the world to play around with all the new toys (just do it in local!), so please don't fuck up the gameplay in the first weeks only so you can try out everything.

My bet is that overall teamplay will decrease again, because many players are just not used to it and therefore everyone of us must do their best to make 'them' play Project Reality like it is intended to be played.

Enforce mumble-usage, train new players, don't exclude them, stick to the server rules, communicate and promote Project Reality by doing so!

Other than that, what is your opinion on this matter?

What else can we do to improve gamplay for 1.0?
Are communities planning on doing trainings for new players? (OD-S? PRTA?)
Which new servers are coming along?
Is the Forgotten Honor Tournament going live?

Want to try stuff up? Create a local and use debug if needed be!

Public servers are for playing not for trying out the new content and screwing the gameplay.

The best way to get new players involved in Project Reality 1.0 is for the existing players to train the new players. I encourage all existing players to squadlead/command, this is the best way we can get new players to feel like they are a part of the team, and gives them the unforgivable experience of high-intensity, coordinated teamwork only found in Project Reality.

1.0 Beta didn't allow people to host local servers so players were testing stuff on the public servers. This is a full release and hopefully everyone will try the stuff before joining public servers to actually play the game.

What? I played only on US servers during the beta, and those I assure you were filled with teamwork.

Atleast when I was on, inf squads worked together and so on yadda yadda.

I've noticed that US servers tend to have more teamwork than the EU ones.

True, I was playing on U.S. servers and teamwork was not lacking. To me it seems like EU servers are infected by "leet players" that want to play their own side of the game with their CAS/armor toys.

The great advantage of the full release will be the Community Servers.
Unlike the Beta the 1.0 servers will be hosted by communities, like 0.98.

We know there were some issues regarding administration in the beta, considering the fact that we had to update the servers even multiple times a day, we had to host them on our own.
But I'm personally really looking forward to the great choice of servers 1.0 will offer.

I'm also going to say that the best way is to for players to take on key roles. It doesn't matter if you are not used to it, squadleading for example. You will set a standard for new PR players which they will follow, you are a good player are you?

I know I will. I will squadlead, command etc, and that's not what i usually do.

Sad but true. It's always a tough decision between teamwork and ping for me. I mean obviously there are a lot of good team-oriented players on EU servers too, but they're mostly clan members and tend to stick with their buddies. And getting thrown out of the only useful infantry squad(s) because you don't have a clan tag sucks...

Personally I'll at least try to squad lead if need be, although I often get the feeling I don't really have the experience needed (started playing 3 years ago, but with LONG breaks in between). So yeah...what the OP said.

Yes, Cowabunga, you are (partly) right. But for many 'serious' players, being in a squad of people that have never played together does not bring in the needed immersion. It's not their fault..

For 1.0, I think (/hope) that most of the clans will open up their squads to everyone that fullfills their requirements (since they all want new members).

I think the other problem with EU servers is the language barrier. There's so many squads which pretty much exclude themselves to certain languages like German or French and it does make it difficult to coordinate.

Do your best to spread the love on Friday guys, perhaps instead of you all pilling into one squad, get your clan to lead 2/3 squads so that the new guys will be herded in the right direction :)

I didn't play on the EU servers during the Beta, but when I played on the US servers teamwork wasn't all that good unless you where in a good squad lead by a good leader. The only problem I see that will mostly likely happen is new guys fighting over assets and doing stupid **** like barrel role in the helicopters. That's happened to me when I played the Beta.

I will be playing friday and saturday. Probably only do squad-leading ^_^

But yea! Language barrier can be a difficult thing. Hope always sinks to a low point when I see only: RUS, GER, FR, POL squads in EU servers. A lot of times theres not even an ENG VOIP squad active... :O

I'm also going to make an "e-learning" video for airsoft showing off PR as a nice middleground between ARMA and BF3 if you want to hone your teamworking infantry airsoft skills.

I hope that we can have a decently lead trans squad on Friday, we are going to need them more in 1.0.
