BF2 installation: patch 1.5 removes BF2.exe

Hey guys, returning PR vet here. I want to get back into it with PR1.0.

When I install BF2 and then 1.41 and then 1.5, I find I'm not able to run the game because BF2.exe is removed from the directory. I have been able to install BF2 on Windows 7 in the past; all of a sudden this problem presents itself for no apparent reason.

Does anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Do you get an error? CTD? blackscreen? or are you searching the directory for the bf2.exe?

I install BF2 with no problem, install patch 1.41 with no problem, and install patch 1.5 with no problem. However when I try and run BF2 from the desktop shortcut (Without PR having been installed) all I get is a screen that pops up and says "Windows is searching for BF2.exe. If you know where BF2.exe is located, click browse and search for it yourself.". No CTD or blackscreen, the game simply doesn't run.

Sure, I install it in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BF2

Don't see how that helps but there you go.
