Latency and Rubber Banding All Servers

Post by redman0123 »

Ok sooo I play on a 3G connection (I know not the best for gaming, but its all that is provided where I live) however, previous to 1.0, it was more then sufficient to play smoothly on most North American servers. I had 100% smooth gameplay all through 1.0 BETA. However today is the second day I have simply not been able to enjoy this great game because I have an issue with really really bad latency/server connection issues. All servers rubber band (TG rubber bands even worse) and I get problem connecting messages and flying logi trucks approximately every 10 minutes in game.

I hope this is just because of mass amounts of traffic because of the new release, however people on servers tell me they have zero latency issues on their end :( I don't get it 1.0 BETA servers were just dandy... my connection didnt miss a beat!

try this, the latency fixer being more important:
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1927556']Download and install this:
Leatrix Latency Fix - Leatrix.com

installation tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_ts6coln3Y

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and install ProcessLasso Free
Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more!
Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more!
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on BF2PR.exe, TR.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the Tr PR and BF2 to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM. There might also be a net traffic option on newest version, set that to high priority also.
Also, I'm not sure it will help, but start PR, alt tab to desktop, then open PRMumble from taskbar. Go to options and there is a way to lower the bandwidth used, low/medum/high. Try low for now. That will save a constant 18kbps to 20kbps , not much , but every little bit helps. This is first time I am offering this up as a option, no guarantee on this one.

How are you connecting PC to internet?
PC->WiFi->Phone->3G network?
PC->Wired dongle->Phone->3G network?
etc.

Let me know.

I am connecting through an 11n 3G/4G hub using my wifi (wifi strength is at full 270mbps)... I will try the tweaks you gave me and report back!

if you have a strong HSDPA signal, it is actually better than 3G, because 3G sends/receives packets in bursts, ...
the advertised upload/download speed isn't the issue, it's the latency. HSDPA has lower latency when it has strong signal.

Also, if your phone is flipping between HSDPA and 3G constantly it will create crazy lag spike.

OK, had a memory of doing this from 10 years ago.
There is a program called SpeedGuide.net TCP Optimizer.
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

But I forgot how to use it.
AND, this is crucial, I have no idea how to calculate RWIN and MTU and Buffer Size , both in WIndows Vista/7/8 and over a Cell network. let alone calculating them together.

Also, go about making sure you shut down every background program that has internet access, from Java updater to iTunes, to Windows Update, etc.

SO I found this online, specific to BF2, not specific to using Cell (was made for a crappy DSL connection problem)
Try the following with TCP Optimizer:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU - 1492
TTL - 64
Windows Scaling - checked
TCP Receive Window - 511104
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 10
LocalPriority - 5
Host Priority - 6
DNSPriority - 7
NetbtPriority - 8
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768

Also, if you try 64p servers the total bandwidth will be the same as 0.98 , with each additional player the total amount of data to download increases proportionally. 100/1.5625 = 1.5625 so it's like 56% more traffic, but actually more than that because there will be additional vehicles moving and additional stuff to track (explosions, bullets, what have you)

Why am I googling this?
Battlefield 2
(On a 50p server), As you can see, the network traffic stays at a fairly steady rate, about 78 kbps (kilobits per second) on the download side and about 24 kbps on the upload side.
On those 100p serves you'll need at least 156kbps upload at a minimum, but probably somewhat more than that for additional vehicles.

I'm not tech savvy :p Thats why Im here!

Alright so I used the latency program and lowered the mumble quality, and these two combined have indeed lowered my ping and smoothed the animation jitters and rubber banding! Except... I still get the wild abnormal lag spikes that last for aprrox 1-2 minutes with tanks driving on walls and logis flying around every 5 minutes or less on every server. Gotta be a 1.0 thing right? Maybe my sheep farmer neighbors are playing PR now too and hogging the cell tower!

I don't have access to a 3G tether/modem/hotspot device, can't test this.

That is the design of 3G.

Go Google "3g antenna" or, 3g antenna homemade and see if you can build yourself one out of household goods.

If you don't mind, what is the exact make and model of your hub device?

Ok update! I used the TCP optimizer and used the auto optimize feature. This in turn has allowed me to play 2 whole rounds with only 1 lag spike so far! I think its fixed! Definately improved anyways. I give this thread 5 stars. :P

Redman looking at your specs I'm surprised to see your graphics as Intel HD 4000, that's the on CPU GPU right and with that you can run all high on HD?

Good catch, I missed it.
Redman, what is your exact make and model of your notebook? Exact make and model, so we can find the specs from manucafturer website.
Does it come with a discrete GPU?
