Ah, I was wondering why you would have a MG3 for both the MG and AR.[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:the current MG3 is the placeholder afaik, the MG3 for the MG kit has a box of ammo while the LMG has a belt iirc.

The size of the bullet doesn't matter. It's the weapon itself that matters. The HK11 (and possibly HK21) are perfectly fitting for the AR role and both fire 7.62 NATO.X-Alt wrote:Ah, I was wondering why you would have a 7.62 for both the MG and AR.
Having a 5.56mm or other just wouldn't make sense, because the MEC don't use any other weapons of that caliber.

Re: Ask the [Dev]s a (?)
The MEC use the 7.62x51mm round as their standard ammunition, so naturally it would make sense to carry this over to their machine guns as well, regardless of whether it's in an AR or a GPMG role. Difference between the two MG3 configurations is that the one the AR has a 50 round drum and can be fired from the shoulder without too much penalty. The one the Machine Gunner kit has is equipped with 120 rounds fed via box and because of that extra weight and fire capability, can only be fired while deployed.
We don't have anything on the drawing board for another MEC AR, when we haven't even finished a number of other weapons that are still going through the pipeline.

Re: Ask the [Dev]s a (?)
Gah, correction, I usually refer the larger GPMGs as 7.62s, considering the majority of ARs fire a smaller caliber and the fact that some HK G3 based LMGs are in 5.56. I guessed a reused vBF2 HK21E model would be a placeholder in my earlier post. Both of the MG3s empty crazy fast, so perhaps that is why I did not notice the difference :3Kothra wrote:The size of the bullet doesn't matter. It's the weapon itself that matters. My question for for curiosity sake and for an I told you so someone on another forum that I'm trying to drum up PR support on.
Who and how many of the PR devs have served in the armed forces?.
Thanks!.
This was asked earlier in the thread (somewhere in the 270+ pages).

Why not just let them have a slightly-modified PKM? (in 7.62x51mm nato, apparently Poland designed one)[R-DEV]Chuc wrote: We don't have anything on the drawing board for another MEC AR, when we haven't even finished a number of other weapons that are still going through the pipeline.

It would be a out of place, it is a recent development after all. Perhaps a MG3 for the AR and a FN MAG for the MG or a HK11 for the AR and a MG3 for the MG. The HK11 for the AR and a FN MAG for the MG might also be a nice option.AnA10Warthog wrote:Oh, yes the UKM.

Re: Ask the [Dev]s a (?)
How about you guys make suggestions in that section?
We didn't stick with the BF2 HK21 when the MEC G3 switch was made because it wasn't widely used in the ME/Central Asia. The MG3 is not only used in the region but license manufactured in Turkey, Iran (which the MEC is heavily based on) and Pakistan.
Also, because of this lovely engine, the difference in game between an MG3 and an HK21 in the light role or HK-11 would pretty much be cosmetic, since they would both be set at an ROF of 900 and the magazine (drum) capacity would be 50 rounds. I had seen 80 round dual-drum references at world.guns.ru and in one early photo of the HK11, but have never seen any available for purchase or that they were ever adopted by any force. Even the G8, were it manufactured under license in the area, would be exactly the same; 900 rpm at 50 rounds.

How come Miltia gets the RPK-74 and not the DP-28?

Indeed, having two RPK's for one faction does not make sense, sir! Insurgents need that DP-28 as well!Kerryburgerking wrote:How come Miltia gets the RPK-74 and not the DP-28?

No, sadly, it can't. Hence the sarcastic "lovely" in my earlier post. It can only set rates of fire at factors of 1800 (100, 150, 200, 300, 450, 600, 900 and 1800).X-Alt wrote:There is the HK11E, 800 RPM, if the engine can do such. I would assume the devs will discuss (if a replacement seems fitting) on a MEC AR after you deal with more important firearm issues for other factions ala QJY-88 replacing the PKP for the PLA. Apparently the HK21 is used by Iranian Police, Sudan, Jordan and Qatar.
Sudan is in Africa, not the Middle East or Central Asia, and the Iranian Police (not military or Pasdarin) use needs a better source than Wikipedia.
Why should they replace something that someone already put a load of work into (for free)? All for a fictional faction leftover from a terrible game on a mediocre engine?

Oh well, the old Refractor 2 engine has its limits, but it is amazing what you devs have been able to do with it over all this time. Makes sense for me. If you want low recoil, take 5.45 RPK-74, if you want firepower take 7.62 RPK(I prefer that one). Besides DP-28 is not really different from RPK in this game.Raklodder wrote:Indeed, having two RPK's for one faction does not make sense, sir! Insurgents need that DP-28 as well!

We should be posting in the suggestions forum, but regardless, North Sudan is sometimes considered part of "the Greater Middle East" (which stretches from Morocco to Pakistan) because it's considered an Arab nation.
