PR 1.0 launcher starting from SSD, PR.exe though from HDD...

Post by Daniel »

Hey,

I installed BF2 and PR on my normal big HDD, then ordered and bought a Kingston SSDNow mS200 mSATA 60 GB (Since 60 GB version was okay from price), now I copied the "EA Games"-folder on the mSATA SSD, edited the paths in the desktop shortcut so the PRlauncher starts from SSD, BUT,when clicking "PLAY" on launcher, and when in PR in game menu, Task Manager still says the HDD path for the Battlefield 2 - PR location... so sth. is wrong here, game still starting from HDD...

I also copied the PRlauncher log and download folders to SSD and edited the correct paths in the PR launcher settings...

And other issue, can I somehow copy the "Documents/Project Reality" folder where my profile and settings are saved to my SSD??

Pls help, I extra bought this uber 550 MB/s write/read 60 GB mSATA SSD specially for PR to see how amazing short my loading times will be... :D

Cheers

You should probably reinstall, copying a game like that is never a good idea.

Yes, we are. Registries go nuts if you simply copy over.

Besides, if its an ssd, should go pretty quick.

Yeah, thought it'd go quite quick, but u see, the problem is HEERE, that WHEN patching 1.41, lots of files from vanilla BF2 get MODIFIED, making the same memory-cell on my SSD used a 2nd time when patched, making that cell "older", slower and break faster than the other cells where stuff is placed ONCE and NEVER edited anymore... (since reading from SSD doesn't make the cells "older", only the writing part makes them "break" much faster), so then Patch 1.41 (1st time files modified), then Patch 1.5 (2nd time files modified) will make my nice SSD break pretty fast... (at least those cells that contain the data/files of fast modified files)... :(
See the problem?... -.-

THe Kingston SSDNow mS200 mSATA 60 GB will last 50 to 8 years.
In 5 to 8 years, a 60GB SSD will cost as much as a lollipop.
Don't worry about it.

You need to: copy everything back to your HDD, properly uninstall, reboot, then reinstall.

"50 to 8 years" should mean "5 to 8 years" I bet??? :p

Wow... THAT's what I feared... 550 MB/s write+read wasted in 5 years (if unlucky) already, for about 60 €... :/

Copy back won't be necessary, you got me wrong, I ONLY installed everything correct on HDD, then copied the BF2 folder (in "EA Games", containing PR mod...) to SSD, so only thing I SHOULD have to to would wipe the folder on my SSD (so my SSD is copmpletely empty again), THEN uninstalling BF2 & PR from HDD, THEN restalling all BF2 & PR completely again on SSD... But HERE the question, how about a parallel installation on HDD AND SSD? :)

Cause THEN (in that case) I can compare the loading times from PR, when running PR from HDD, and when running PR from SSD... :D ;)

Should work, Litoralis, right? 8)

And yes jafar, I am sooo excited of how quick EXACTLY BF2, Patch 1.41, Patch 1.5 and PR will be installed, having 550MB/s write speed... :D 8) epic... ! ;)

Parallel installations require two separate versions of BF2, and custom registry entries which I can no longer provide cause AncientMan hasn't listed all the new registry locations, entries, and keys yet.

In short, don't do that yet.

Thx for the gr8 help, ok, deinstalled BF2 & PR completely, gonna reinstall on SSD once I get my 4 GB Kingston ValueRAM 1600 MHz SO-DIMM stick which I ordered today (should be here tomorrow or wednesday, so I have 8 GB RAM then), then gonna drag patch 1.41, 1.5 and the PR (unpassworded) file on my SSD and gonna see how fast installation will rock! :D Hell, maybe I even should record the installation process (on a "Kingston SSDNow ...", 550 MB/s ) so people see the installation AND level-load-time advantage! :) ;) 8)

Thx again for all the help, will post back here if I get any trouble then. :)

Btw "can no longer provide" and "YET", meaning you will be able to provide them in future again?

IDK if it's possible. I have no more information than you regarding the changes to reg entries.
