Finding server spots : The adventure

Post by Archosaurus »

How the hell do you guys do it?
It seems that when I can find an acceptable (Read: Not Russian, English speaking, somewhat organized.) server where I can join, I always have to join a squad.
When I do find a server where I'm just joining in, which has happened only a few times in the past years, and where I can actually make my beloved MECH INF squad, the server is either nearly empty, or one of "those" servers where someone thinks its a good idea to plant explosives under the transport helo at base while the armor guys are having a drifting competition in the middle of a city.
Seriously, how do you find the perfect time? Do you just camp outside the full servers for hours on end, join when you can and only leave to sleep?

sometimes it can take like 10-20 minutes to get in to your favourite server.

Just find a server that has a lot of regular players. I used to play on TG a lot. Had good times there. It was partly because many of the players were vets, but mostly because it had an active forum of its own with many regular players.

Id like to think a bit of that gameplay colored off on some other servers.

Its just like any other teamsport, its one thing with random guys, but a different one with team players.
Also around release time its notoriously hard to get on good servers.

Nah, its not the server which is the problem, I've been here for years, I already know where to go.
Its getting there which is the problem.
Even in the good ol' 0.95 days I had problems getting onto servers.
Must be my timezone.

I usually plan to hop in line for one of my favorite servers, and get myself comfortable and ready to play. I'll get my drink, maybe some snacks, and anything I'll need, so I don't have to leave during game. Makes the waiting productive, and quicker.

How do you get past the reserved spots?
What happens with the "auto join" function, is that if they have any reserved slots, I will get the usual "Your name is not on the blah blah".

Is there another way? I can wait manually, I have patience, but its still boring as hell.

Usually for me, where is says "insert max players" or whatever, I'll compensate for the reserved slots, which are usually the last 2. So ill set the max at 98 or something if the max players. That make any sense?

Well I'll be damned.

Didn't realize it worked that way.

Thanks!
