Cannot Even Start BF2

Hi Guys

Every time I try to start BF2 vanilla, I go back to the desktop.

If I run it fullscreen it goes black for a few seconds then back to desktop.

If I run it using the settings

+menu 1 +fullscreen 0

I get the following error..



I have tried deleting the profiles, changing the screen res in the video.con file within profiles and under settings in the BF2 folder, also tried changing my screen res and lowering the refresh rate to match the settings in video.con.

Updated and lowered versions of my drivers for my graphics card. Also disabled my sound card.

Installed DX9 again, and even bought a second copy off of steam, instead of using my boxed copy.

System specs.

i5 2600k
7950 Beta 13.8 drivers.
8gig ram
Installed on a ssd.
Windows 7 pro.
Samsung SA950 monitor runnign normally at 120Hz refresh using a dual dvi cable.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it BF2 from Steam or on a disc? If it's on a disc, is it the complete collection?

The techy guys among the community should be able to help, hopefully.

Tried steam version, a 1.41 image and the vanilla install from the complete disc with no other patches.

You absolute dancer...

Got BF2 working, changed my cable from a dual DVI cable for 120Hz to a standard HDMI cable, deleted my BF2 profile folder and it worked first time..

Oh lol, I'm guessing in your video.con file you had resolution set to 800x600 and refresh set to 60Hz , ... if you're curious reconnect the dual dvi and test, then open the documents/projectreality/profile/0001/video.con to check.

Did all that mate, I am sure it was down to the Dual DVI cable..

Spent hours trying all sorts of refresh rates, and change of screen resolutions..

OK, thanks for that,
It's another item I have to remember to mention to peole with similar problems going forward,
since 120Hz monitors have come down in price we're seeing greater numbers of them in PR.
