Not really no. Make sure that you're trying to connect to servers that are hosted near to where you live. So in your case a server that's located in Europe. Make sure that you're not downloading in the background either.

What do you consider "High Ping".

In PR, having a ping of <= 100 is usually fine. Although I do have the feeling that it got a tiny bit more important to have a lower ping in the new version. Just a gut feeling though.

For you as a German based player the NEW, QRF and NwA servers should all be playable.

Let me have another quick shot at trying to help though:

if you know how to find the ping of my internet it would be appreciated .
The ping/latency to a server is being displayed in the server browser. When you simply click on a server name, it'll update a number in that line. That number states your ping.

Latency or ping is speed, in ms milliseconds there and back to a server it's shown on the score sheet its the last column on the right.

Your bandwidth is how much data you can receive in a second is far less important for gaming that's for downloading or watching you tube.

In my experience you can play at 200 - 300 but you have to shoot where the target will be not where you see it, you will get owned in CQB.

In the peak times I have no download speed about 500kbs (in Europe I had 8000 or 8Mbs), but my ping is good to Australia at 40, and just about OK at 230 to CIA on my side of America.

I had an abysmal ping but after checking out local gamer forums I changed and its fifteen times better!

Hello Baathist,

Your are not alone.

Before the v1.0 update I was getting around 55/70 ping on HOG and around 40 on German servers. Now I know your not from Germany, but for me usually there are only 3-4 active servers. The servers are Russian (Which everyone who is not Russian will be banned from), then there are the German servers (Tactical Gamer if I can recall), then HOG (USA/NY) and some other server I do not know what country.

I would like to say something, for years when I load PR, go the online server list, click Update server list, click on a server and click "connect"; I will get an error saying something like "can not join" or "the connection to the server has been lost". The trick (for me) around this is to just click "connect" again and it loads up. Its rather strange.

Now currently with PR v1.0, the =HOG= server states I am getting around 140-190 ping, as you can see my latency has doubled since the release of version 1. I havent played a full game on PR since the release of the new one. The reason is, it takes not twice as long, but three to four times longer for the map to load, when it loads and the weapon selection menu and map appears, I have to wait a further 5mins for the insane lag to stop. Once it stops, I join a squad, select a weapon and spawn in. Now I have to wait 3mins for the (once again) insane lag to stop, then I can start walking, as I walk it is like a slide show and from my experience (17 years of online gaming) this is what happens when a major update of a game occurs. The textures, polygons, models, lighting, AA, shadowing all have some kind of new feel to it, its sharper and for some reason it also feels like the maps have been either scaled larger, the objects or the player/models have had their scale changed or something. I am not a game designer but PR feels totally different in size comparison.

This leads me to believe that your PC (and mine) is the problem, its the RAM, its the GFX card, its the pagefile and the processing power. The error is not your internet connection, you have a good connection. For some reason when I set all my settings to low and log in, they actually look very high quality compared to what I have been playing with before the update. With the GFX options taken away from in game settings and the new GFX menu at the start of PR I am confused as to why my graphics (terrain textures, moving animated grass etc) are better in v1.0 on LOW GFX settings compared to PR prior to the update with all LOW settings.

So, that situation you and myself find ourselves in is not only caused by what I described above but also the fact that there are 100 players in the game. Also, after the BETA I was talking to a few players and they said Windows XP can not run PR, I am using XP to play PR, so maybe this is also an added issue.

Baathist, can you please post your PC/Laptop specs please? Shorthand (the main stuff you would see on dxdiag).

My specs:
OS: Windows XP 32Bit
RAM: 2GB
GFX: 512MBRadeon X1600
Pagefile: 3044MB
Processor: Intel Core 2 CPU, 6400 @ 2.13GHz

..and PR v1.0 runs at around 7FPS 15FPS on all LOW settings with HOG server having around 150 Ping, the German server is around 60. I do not live in Britain, I live in Ireland.

Hope this helps and gives you some insight as I also thought I was the only one with high ping. I love PR and it kills me not to be able to play it so I am in the process of selling some stuff in order to get a new PC at around ?300 custom made by a friend.

for now , i'll play coop because i don't want to shoot where the target will be . so i'll give it another shot after upgrading my internet speed.
Thanks y'all for your help.
I have a 30MB connection Baathist, what are your PC specs man? You may not have to upgrade your internet (it wouldn't do any harm to upgrade but I'm trying to save you money :) )

Hey,
If u live in Syria, u should go check the EU servers instead of US servers. If u have less than 200 in EU servers. Then u are fine, but once u reached 250 or even higher. u might need to contact ur internet provider.
Btw, there are server info on each server, u can check them on the server feedback forum or in game.

The first login fail is something related to BF. It also happens in BF2 and BF2142.

Best thing i can say is to try a 64 player euro server with low ping and see if that makes it better (don't look at teamwork first).

The only thing i can say about your laptop is that it should be running it without problems.

Denver your ping cannot change because of a version or a different game. Someone else using your internet, background programs like Skype or xfire dunno if integrated mumble might slow you down a bit. Either way from UK to Germany where most servers are shouldn't be a problem.

Your lag at start up is no doubt because of your RAM, I get lag when I first spawn in but it lasts only 5 seconds win7 64) see If you can use 4GB on XP it'll change alot.
