Random crash to desktop with no error report
I have PR 1.0 updated to the latest version.
I was playing the other day and the game worked fine for a few hours, good fps, no problem at all.
But today when I try to play, the game works good for a few minutes and then randomly closes, leaving me at the desktop, with no error report.
I have GameBooster, but I've tried with/without it and I am still having the problem. My antivirus (AVG) is disabled.
I've tried lowering all video settings and screen resolution, but that doesn't help. Besides, I was playing with medium-high settings the other day with no problem at all.
After searching Google, I found a solution to this for PR 0.97 by using shortcut start parameters - something to do with the monitor refresh rate. But that doesn't seem possible with PR 1.0 since it uses the launcher.
Please help!

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
The proper way to reset video settings and start windowed mode(to see the errors at crash)
LITOralis.nMd wrote: 1. Go to MyDocuments\Battlefield 2\Profiles and just delete that entire directory.
2. Start the launcher and go to Video options, select to start windowed mode, with 1280x720 resolution. Start PR.
If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
OK, so I followed these instructions, but the game closed again in windowed mode. This time it had the standard Windows "PRLauncher has stopped working" send-error report dialogue, but no actual error report from PR. Mumble continues running, but the game closes.SnipeHunt wrote:The proper way to reset video settings and start windowed mode(to see the errors at crash)
To me it seems completely random - I haven't noticed any specific reason that causes it to crash...
Also, it seems I only have this problem since I updated to the latest patch.
So unless there's a fix, PR is pretty much unplayable for me now

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
I saw some thread with the same issue, and one person said that disabling his anti-virus (in his case and mine AVG) worked, and it worked for me too. You might try that, and hopefully the DEVs can eventually find a workaround so we can keep our anti-virus running.
EDIT: Sorry, I'm dumb and didn't even read. Disabling AVG worked for me, sorry if it didn't for you.

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
Check the Windows Event Viewer to see if it caught any errors during the crash.

It doesn't mean anything to me.

I have AVG turned off while gaming and Windows Firewall is always disabled.cheapman44 wrote:https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... x-ctd.html

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
My firewall was turned off also. I turned it on and wrote the inbound rules for PR, then closed out of windows firewall and it ran fine after that. I have left it on since and had no problems.POLAR wrote:I have AVG turned off while gaming and Windows Firewall is always disabled.

Re: Random crash to desktop with no error report
After updating to 1.0.35.0, I played for a few hours today with no problems at all.
Not sure whether the update or enabling Windows Firewall which stopped the CTD's, but for now it seems good.

Did you do everything cheapman said? Set the exceptions in the firewall? Or just turn it on?

I went Control Panel > Advanced Settings > Inbound Rules > New Rule and added PRLauncher.exe and PRBF2.exe, and set both to allow all connections.SnipeHunt wrote:Did you do everything cheapman said? Set the exceptions in the firewall? Or just turn it on?

Ok, if you did that. Then you should be good. As long as it is allowed in Inbound rules, you should be fine.POLAR wrote:I went Control Panel > Advanced Settings > Inbound Rules > New Rule and added PRLauncher.exe and PRBF2.exe, and set both to allow all connections.

Yes, I used to have the same problems. Even as much as you. If not more often. Try my fix that I have posted here--->https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... x-ctd.htmlRaklodder wrote:Today was worse than ever (never crash to desktop before) had like six until I decided to play no more and go to bed.
