Mumble Beep & Squelch

Post by A.Finest »

Greetings,

Seeing as PR Mumble now has a feature with a beep and a squelch, however that feature is only for outgoing transmissions but not for incoming transmissions.

Sometimes the Mumble HUD simply dont show up and some squad leaders have a bad habit of not announcing their squad name nor number when contacting other squad leaders. And taking the 50 player teams into consideration now, you can sometimes find your self in an area with lots of communications. Especially on maps like Ramiel. Having the "Beep" coming in you know its whole other squad thats trying to reach you and not just a squad mate asking some weird questions.

Its a fairly small feature request. But I reckon it will cause less confusion on the long scale. Keep in mind we got a lot of new people around now guys! :)

They should remove overlay from squad-to squad mumble. That would force people to communicate properly.

Why cant there be ACRE for PR :(

Proper SL-to-SL comms is something people will have to learn. When you are in a server and see somebody not doing it, you should ask them to start doing it in a nice way. It's not hard, but it's not something they might be used to and when they start doing it, hopefully they will see the value of it.

The beeps for receiving it's much harder thing to do, and would be interesting, but give it time and we'll see if it can be done.

:( i can never hear anyone inside vehicles anyway ... so hearing a beep or no beep wouldn't matter ... I think all vehicles should have a muffled wound to simulate earmuffs or earplugs seeing its very loud and all

I think they did not put this in on purpose, due to possiblities of trolling people by spamming comms button.

If they spam, it shows on the HUD. If it shows on the hud, they can be banned. Solved.

Im all up for incoming beeps.

Only one problem DB, the beep seems too loud for me, is there a chance of implementing a volume bar or just reducing it to 70% or so?

Right now it's set to be 35% of your Effects volume. Let's see if a more custom volume can be defined later on.

I have mumble output volume adjustment hotkeys binded to keybad + and -. I suggest everyone to do this as you can easily adjust the volume depending on the situation.

I got the impression from Finest's post that he was suggesting an incoming beep for SL > SL comms only. Spam shouldn't be an issue unless it were enabled for all comms, which seems like a bad idea. I suspect an incoming beep for every communication would quickly drive one mad.

I agree with you on the ACRE side, it would be really good and quite useful too.

You can troll people in many ways, in worst case you can mute the individual manually on Mumble IF its that big of a deal.

No need to make problems larger than they already are, Spook :)

I have my effects turned down to 40%, and turned up mumble volume from 20db to 25db.. That did it for me :)

Beep beep :) . For receiving, squad radio has a different sound to officer radio, so that should help as well.

Also put in some faction specific audio cues, so factions that use cellphones have a phone keypad tone sound instead :D
