Ever since map-vote was invented I have been annoyed that I couldn't plan ahead by knowing a servers map rotation.

The way PR games work it is often much more enjoyable to be in a round from the very beginning.
Looking at a server-list like PR-spy you can predict when a server will switch map and when it does the server will lose a few players so you can join in exactly when the new map loads.

The other Reason is that it is very annoying that you have to read up on the map-votes while your still playing the game. It's an unnecessary distraction.

Last reason is the way that the map votes are put out. It is quite easy to rig a vote by putting a overplayed map up against a rare map. 9 out 10 times the overplayed map will get voted because the few people who vote can associate something to a map they have already played.
The solution is to have a series of votes, but that only enhances the annoyance mentioned above.

I would like to see map-votes disappear in favor of a map rotation that is changed every week or so. Knowing what is next map saves me a lot of time and I don't have to be idle on a server like many others are these days.

Those who keep claiming that servers will die if a on demand map isn't chosen id say that it would be unlikely that the server would have such a similar minded player-base, and if it dies out it is more likely the poor game-play/player-base, poor admins or time of day that is causing it... not the map itself.

Voting for layer and or insurgency makes sense to gauge players interest.. but map votes usually are endless annoying spam-fest, whining, complaining. That's SPAM on the screen. Sometimes maps get decided with less than 30% participation..?! Some admins in my opinion are too interested in playing than proper admining. Its part of the job. If your paying attention you can figure out which map works best or not. Its not rocket science and there are plenty of maps to chose from. I used to play along and vote but not anymore.

The issue with map voting is that PR rounds last about 1 hour and 20 minutes on average. In a session a player will probably not play more than 3 rounds. Therefore the players in the server are renewed within just a few games, meaning that the same maps can come up and be voted for within a few rounds of each other. Thus, less popular maps fall to the wayside.

Map votes are great. I'd hate it if admins just decide to run a map only based on their personal preference.
If you want to keep the server populated, let the players decide.

The trick is to choose some nice voting options that are not Muttrah/Kokan/Fallujah.

The players decided and we got Muttrah and Kokan 24/7 server (no offense to HOG and CIA, just had to throw that out), ....don't let the big mindless flock decide, they don't know what's best, or what's even good for them. I'm really interested if some of the newer players have ever played, or even heard of certain maps.

So you want to tell us, that most of the 40 Maps ingame are...bad for us? And how can they even decide what's best or "good for them" (:roll :) , when they don't have the oppurtunity to play them?
Brainlaag wrote: I'm really interested if some of the newer players have ever played, or even heard of certain maps.
Certainly not, because they never got the chance to play them due to 24/7 Kokan/Muttrah/Fallujah servers, lol.

I'd like to see more VN-maps in the rotation, but please not that hill488 nightlayer.

GJ carmikaze you get the award for missing the meaning of my post by 110%. You managed to turn what I've said by 180 degrees into the wrong direction. Although I have to agree that I did not express myself clearly enough apparently.

To rephrase it: YES, maps votes are bad, baaaaaaadd, reeeaaaallllllyyyy bad because you'll get the same shitty maps over and over and over again, simply because people are not used to anything else.

Not sure how "....don't let the big mindless flock decide, they don't know what's best, or what's even good for them." can be interpreted as "yeh let the majority decide through a vote, since they know the best maps" but okay  .

Well, i can tell you, i thought by "mindless flock" you mean those typical Kokan/Muttrah/Fallujah voters.

Any my point is still valid: admins just need to do votes without Muttrah etc. as an option so people will vote for something else. There's so much to choose from with a map pool like this and even without the most popular maps included there will almost always be an option that people will like more than the others.

Some admins need a map reeducation and very frequently they make tendentious map votes ...

I think the map vote could be an automatic program that would load at the start or in the middle of the match, and random maps would be displayed for the players to vote , with at least 4 maps to choose from , plus the map layer(something ignored by most players and admins ;P )

no game mode choices ... just all maps minus the ones already played.

and if it is an admin online, he could take over with the current mapvote system if needed, but the automatic mode would always be there as a safe guard and to mix things up, since bf2 mapvote system sucks.

I've stopped going to CIA mainly because of the mapvotes and how the maps are always the same ones.

AAS? It's gotta have attack choppers in it!
INS? It's gotta be Kokan that's for sure, why not alt layer too?

I have seen countless times a full server die out because the vote option turned out like this:

1. Siege at Ochamchira
2. Iron Eagle
3. Korengal

I understand admins being very careful with what they choose and this won't change unless ALL server start randomizing their maplist for the sake of variety. Otherwise you'll have people leaving just to join another server with their favorite faction/asset/etc.

On another note, currently with the ongoing crashes having a maplist running without votes is not that easy since you get the same loop of maps after every crash.
