How to get started with audio modding?

Post by Megagoth1702 »

Hey guys,

I downloaded the BF2 editor but I find the internet lacking tutorials for it... I could not find a single one on how to edit sounds of stuff.

Do you know of any sites, documents or threads anywhere?

For starters I want to mod the sound of a weapon.

Thanks in advance!

Alright, apparently you really need to edit the original content, there is no way of saying "okay, use the sounds from folder X" like in arma2. Then there are the ".tweak" files that contain all the info about objects. Aight.

What I wonder now - how do I spawn a soldier in the editor, to take control of him and how do I switch his kit/weapon. :-/ Mhh... Digging.

Any help is welcome!

I would really appreciate some help. I got that M4 sound that does not want to loop in burst mode, I have it in the right bit rate and I also put in regions for the loop but it does not work. Take a look:

BTW-samples have pretty much same volume now, yours AND mine. But they are both distorted. Not pretty at all. :)

Private projects: Maybe, I had 2 weeks of free time being sick at home, now I will get back to work every day and only have my PC on weekends. Maybe I will do some sound stuff, then it mainly will be putting punch and mechanics into the guns for the 1p sounds.

Alright. Since my DAW struggles with the regions, there is another tool out there.

Bf2 Sound Tools - Official BF Editor Forums

Just enter the RoF and it will put regions on it, works flawlessly. Sweet. Gonna start working on a sound package now.

Sup, how about this?

PR, mew M4 sound, final - YouTube

I think this is:
-snappy
-bassy
-clean
-saturated
-with mechanics
-loud
-agressive
-good?

Your opinions on the M4?

It is important too I think. If the player hears a clear difference between his own gun and the guns of his teammates he clearly knows what is going on in the audio world and it makes him make clear connectons (no snap -> third person -> friendly/enemy close).

Indoor is actually the same sound just with much stronger reverb, why should the initial kick sound too different anyway?

Not gonna do anything to distant since I think they're alright.
