Can hear but can't be heard

Post by Johny_B_Nasty »

Hi!

I've got a really frustrating issue with my microphone:

in Mumble (in game) I do hear everybody, I can hear myself breathing (for example) but noone can hear me talking.

1) Evidently mumble is working at least partly for me.

2) My mic is working since I can hear myself talking for test. I can listen to myself in Windows.

3) It used to work in the Beta.

4) My system: Windows 7 64 bit SP1, Soundblaster Titanium HD, Zalman ZM-MIC1 microphone.

Please help me make this darn thing work.

Cheers

check to see if it is set as the default input device in mumble.

you can start mumble by itself.
I think the folder is
<bf2folder>/mods/pr/bin/PRmumble
Best line yet...
Me: "Hey APC, Can I get a ride to squad 6?"
Unknown: "This APC ain't no Taxi!"

If you can hear yourself isn't it likely to be that listen to myself check box in audio mic settings it seems to check itself sometimes to some people.

I have the same mic as you. Try going to your Sound in Control Panel > Recording tab > Right click on the mic > Properties

Check to match my settings

And do reply back if you got it working!

Another Windows 7 64 bit SP1 owner, Soundblaster Titanium HD owner and Zalman ZM-MIC1 microphone owner checking in.

Go to control panel, under Recording tab make sure Microphone is selected as primary device, under its properties make sure "listen to this device" is not ticked in Listen tab.
Then under Speaker properties go to Levels tab and make sure Microphone is muted.
Under X-Fi control panel make sure Microphone is selected as your "REC" source and set to 100%.
Under mumble settings make sure Microphone is selected as your input method.

Do all this and it should work + you won't listen to yourself.

Also make sure that under Communications, it's "Do Nothing" selected as well!!

First, thank you a lot for taking your time!

@=]H[= Apollo
I know about those playback/record volume settings. Fiddling with those initially didn't help that's why it was frustrating.

Something else, how did you make Windows recognise your mic as the Zalman one? In my settings my mic is listed only as a generic microphone device.

@Prevtzer
I haven't installed Console Launcher but only the Driver which essentially contains all the functions of the former.

It seems I managed to fix my problem in a rather banal way. I opened the audio settings of the PR launcher and (finally) switched the sound to "X-Fi". Previously, it was set to "Hardware" only. Why PR wouldn't let use my mic with Hardware setting only eludes me, though.

Also, I run sometimes into a new problem: the 3D effects are much too strong. Eg, if a vehicle passes by or is standing at my left, the sensation is that my soundcard completely switches off the right channel and only let's through the sound of the vehicle engine into the left (headphones) channel. I really hate Creative and their driver crafting sometimes.

Maybe some of your setting aren't as they should be. In control panel you need to Configure your Speakers as 5.1. Then, go to start- all programs- Creative- Creative Audio Control Panel or Creative Console Launcher and switch to Game Mode, select headphones, enable CMSS-3D, set ElevationFilter to On, set MacroFX to Off, enable EAX (default value) and don't enable SVM.

I have a very similar set-up to yours and have 0 issues with this stuff.

Very interesting stuff! Regarding the 0 issues: it used to be that way here, too. But with 1.0 out things changed ;)

Btw, was that you: CMSS Headphone confusion (X-Fi) - Discussion ?

Thank you for asking, mate! I think I did sort it out. If not, I'll bump this thread.

Edit: My troubles are gone. Everything ok now, now only need a full Tactical Gamer server.
