Mics Required to Play PR?

Post by General534 »

Noob here. Seriously, I've gotten kicked from almost every squad I've tried to join so far. The ones that aren't Mumble required are disorganized with no communication. The ones that are Mumble required either they hurt my ears or everyone is just idiots. It's one extreme or the other.

Every once and a while I find a squad that doesn't require anything but still communication whether it be mics or not, and usually this is the top squad in the game.

Can I just ask that squad leaders let people into their squad that don't have a mic, with the mass of new players joining for 1.0? Even if it doesn't work out, that's fine, then you can kick. But just because somebody doesn't have a mic doesn't mean they should be treated like an absolute traitor or a fail at the game. Thanks. Because nobody likes to be squadless.

When players join my squad I talk to them in Mumble. If they do not replay, I ask them in the chat. If they still do not reply, they get kicked.

If someone has a legit reason for not having a mic, I might let him stay but since the chat is a tool that is not useful for comms (-> nobody can read what you type when you are dead -> no revives) I prefer players with mics at all times.

In my opinion, having a working microphone is a crucial part of the game.

just buy a mic its so cheap and hey presto ull become a functioning useful member of the team, u cud buy a mic at any supermarket or discount store for a few dollars im serious mine cost me one pound thats 1.26 dollars.

in short just get a mic ,if im squad leading i wont have someone without a mic as it makes the entire thing a nightmare to organise.

just last night i was killed over and over whilst i stop to type to the squad members with no mic.

Also, if ure saying they hurt your ears they probably screaming at you to answer them. BUY MIC WIN GAMES GET INVOLVED

Sorry but that's complete BS. The squads that communicate and use mics will come out on top of the "FREE KITS" squads 99% of the times. For obvious reasons.

Communication is what makes or breaks your squad. Don't take it personal when you're being kicked but you knew beforehand that this is the way this game is played. You will be a burden to the squad if you can't relay info on the fly.

Get yourself a mic and all is well.

Squadleaders rule their own squads. If they dont like how someone plays they have the freedom to kick them.
If you disagree and think you can still play without a mic I advise you to create one yourself, sometimes you just have to take the inniciative.

and please it seems quite strange for you to complain about people who actual use the communication elements provided to them.

You will most likely get kicked from most servers for not using mumble. Mumble is integrated into PR for a reason and most servers enforce the use of it. If you do not, you break the server rules and therefore get punished. Get a mic, there is no other solution.

Did you never ask yourself why people never answered to your ingame chat when you were dead? Only dead people see dead chat. as soon as you are either wounded (dead) or actually dead (dead dead) there is a * << star infront of your nick in the chat, which means you are talking in the dead chat. People alive cannot read that. Remember that, alot of ppl still do not know that and start typing, " TANK becareful, CAS coming for you they just killed me!!" ...they will not see this ;)

SL without a mic
Bad advise.

In my opinion pr launcher should check the mic presence and not allow to run it at all without.

I'm just baffled in general...

But I'm still not understanding the massive reluctance by people to get a mic. Yes Stray Cat, i'm looking at you. I've just read your massive post and it seems to me like you're just bitching because you don't have one.

Not everyone is, as you've so eloquently put it, a mic nazi. Believe it or not, there may be people who think that, oh, i dunno, everything is a lot better when you have a mic? That's because it generally is. There's a good reason that mumble was integrated into the release and launcher.

YOU might not think it's necessary to have a mic for certain things, but those that do run and operate the servers may have a different opinion. And in the end, it's their opinion that matters. If you've been told not to fly if you don't have one, either get yourself a mic, don't fly or go to a different server. In my experience, it's a lot easier if you're talking to a pilot who does have one, because if you ask them to go to a certain place and there's a battalion of tanks there, they can tell you so you don't get all pissy when they drop you a hundred metres away. Similarly, if you land behind a hill which has a 100m in front of it to the objective, you can tell them why you've done that, again, so they don't get pissy, have a go at you and report you to the admins.

Now to the OP, it's been said before and i'll say it again, having a mic makes everything better. If you're getting shot at from a direction, it's easier to say it than go prone, open the chat box and type it, by which time someone else has already been shot. But usually so long as someone's USING mumble (i.e. has it open and is listening to the squad through it, doing what they're told etc) then there isn't a problem, but obviously there will be those times where either the squad leader has someone they know waiting for a slot in a squad, or someone disconnected or something, then logically, it will be the one without a mic who is the first to go. 9 times out of 10, it's nothing personal, it's just the way it is.

I agree with this, you can just enjoy being kicked from the squads and servers over and over again.

I'm just amazed that the communities got to the point where this has become a thing.

Personally, I really do see having a mic being something that is really necessary to get the full experience when you're playing PR. However i don't see it as something that should be completely required otherwise you can't play the game. But by not having a mic you're severely restricting yourself and the squad that you're in. You might be one of the best PR players out there but it means nothing when you can't effectively communicate with your teammates.

And yes i know that some people can't afford or have living arrangements that mean they can't use a mic.

Really? If someone is so poor that he can't afford a mic for 1 pound... I'm amazed that he can somehow access the internet and has a computer.

I have to point out that o the server I got abused on ramiel for "not communicating", there was no mic rule. It was a simple matter of the commander being ******* and the admin being theasshole multiplier because he applied abuse without checking the circumstances of the situation.

Simple solution then: If you don't like how that server's run, use a different one.
