Invalid CD Key

Post by Rapid12 »

Hi there,

I've had an account with BF2 since the day it was released and I've bought at least one other copy since.

A month prior to the release of PR v1.0 I accidentally deleted my BF2 files and was unable to reinstate them because they were too big for the recycle bin, so they were deleted period.

My old disc was lost years ago and the other copy I had bought for my son is scratched and won't install.

So, upon the release of PR v1.0 I borrowed my nephew's recently bought copy of BF2 Complete Collection and installed just BF2 from it, and logged in with my original account...Rapid12. Everything worked fine and I've played without issue until tonight.

Tonight both my nephew and I decided to play together, but both of us are getting the invalid CD key error if either of us are already in a server. If he leaves the game, I can join, but when he tries to rejoin he gets the error and vice versa.

Now I can't remember having to punch in a CD key on the last install, but my memory isn't like it once was, so there's every chance I did. Could that be the problem despite me being logged in with my 8 year old account?

Is there a quick fix? Any help would be gratefully received.

I've found multiple sites with the same fix for this but unfortunately, and frustratingly (incredibly so) I can't navigate to a Electronic Arts folder after running regedit. It's simply not there despite having the game installed.

Hi,

suspect you are using the same key for both computers.

This can be easily confirmed by checking the guid (found in the support feature in the launcher).

We can then move onto fixign the registry after this is confirmed or otherwise :)

OK, I'll look for it but do I post it up here, or is it wiser to PM it to you?

Ah, I have indeed punched in his CD Key. Do I just simply re-enter my old key? It does have a 'change key' option.

We do not need to know the actual CDKey. Please do NOT post it inpublic, nor do we need to know it ina private message.

You are a bit confused on the CDKey and user ID system, they are separate entities.
The CDKey is a single copy license of the game. That you paid for, at least thrice.
Anyone sitting in front of a PC with a valid license can create as many new User IDs as they wish. That is free.

What you did was install the same CDKey on your PC and your Nephew's PC.

Going forward, the PRLauncher has an integrated CDKey changer, PRLauncher->SUpport->Keys tab, you should be able to take the son's CDKey from his retail packaging, type it into your PRLauncher screen there, click Apply, and now your PC will have your son's CDKey, and your nephew will still have his CDKey, and you'll be good to go.

If you need to retrieve your original CDKey that you lost, you would have to contact EA and ask nicely for a new one from the customer support reps.

Yes Rapid that's all you need to do, I was typing a novel while you figured it out.
remember to click Apply after typing in the key.

Cheers all.

My son is writing a novel, a fantasy type affair like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings.
