Squad to Squad mumble Radio Filter

Post by Quobble »

Hello!
I had the idea that some people might find interesting.

Would it be possible to add a function in the mumble settings, that gives the voice communication between Squads are more radio like sound effect?

Local and Squad intern comms can stay the same as it is right now, but maybe it would be really awesome if squadleaders talk with that awesome effect to each other.

"This is squad 1 to all squads, the enemy AAV at Delta 4 is down. CAS is safe for now"

Imagine that with a real radio sound effect :)
"Artyom! If it's hostile - you kill it."

Oh yes!! :D

I disagree with one point though, the sound effects should also appear on "squad intern comms", as every squadmember has a headset/radio. Only "local" should be effect free, since it imitates face-to-face communication.

#2 @ ad

There are people out there with shitty microphones, they already sound like they try to transmit a message from 1944 in a tank. We have the incoming/outgoing sounds and thats great and enough i think.

YES PLEASE GOD ACRE. This is the ONLY thing PR is missing. Additionally, if there was a way we could pair Mumble with the in-game geometry, objects and distance to affect radio interference that would be mindblowing. We could also possibly require inter-squad radio features (IE squadleader to squadleader) to require kits with radios.

also if we DID have real life radio features that require players to keep in mind where they are in order to talk to other squad leaders clearly... we should also totally remove the players on the map... and replace the maps with their military counterparts... I saw another suggestion about that... I think that would be a great combo

Yeah no Map, no nametags, no Binos. That would be great, like in reality but without the immersion or the known soldiers

pls not

Why you would make teamplay so complicated just because its "real"? Its nothing real on this when you simply try to add more function in the game without giving them proper counterparts. And we dont have these counterparts.

Bf2 maps are not large enough to be worth using Acre, and the addition of the radio cue is very nice and sufficient.

The only gimmic that I would still like to see (for the immersion) is that your ambiance noise is transmitted through the "radio" when you talk, so that you can hear artillery falling for example around the guy that is transmitting.

Imagine being a spotter for artillery and the guys back at the mortars could hear there own shells impact :D

You could also instantly tell if the one your talking to is inside a moving vehicle or not.

It is not technically possible afaik, and I haven't seen this done in any game.

All this features are cool but not practical.

This leads us back to the point where people care more about their KDR so they will find other ways to communicate (teamspeak).

Unless Devs manage to block all other VoIP programs on the player's side when PR is launched I don't see why so much resources should be spent on the features which will be avoided by majority of players in order to have clear coms and hence more frags.

Make it optional then like the radio cues we already have so people who play to win aren't bothered by too much immersion.
User Ubaydah: "I used to play Call of Duty a lot and Battlefield 3. I am really good at those games 10th prestige, High K/d., I can kill people easily, etc. But on PR, for me, to be honest, I kind of suck."

User Not_able_to_kill: "Frontliner, you like evil man who comes to family house during christmas, takes out tree because it's too happy, so they can be just as sad as you"

if it was an option that was default off that would be great, I think it would definitely add some intensity especially for lets plays and stuff

Please god don't tie up too much over this just because someone mentioned ACRE...

He meant not to fully integrate ACRE, just add some "radio sound filters". If some people don't like the additional immersion, they could just turn it off.

You want to LOWER the audio quality? Well, I guess there is first for everything.

I think I know what he means.... but how often are you so far away from some other friendly that you would be able to tell in the filtering that he is far or close or using a mic from toysR'us. A cue tells you....yes it is a radio call.... If someone wanna make a filter and you can enable it, fine by me. But even though I like immersion a lot I won't decrease the quality and maybe miss some important information just for that, having a subtle ambiance noise that gives me some "bonus" information while I talk to someone would be nice though. I would even be able to shout a little more when I reply to that person if he for example is in a vehicle.

I never tried Acre myself, but what's so special about it compared to Mumble as we have it now? What other options does it offer that would benefit PR?

Mumble is being used now primarily as old bf2 voip was. Right now it's 95% squad chat and 5% local chat. It would be cool if we could get rid of the squad chat, and maybe replace it with inter-vehicle communication or sth like that (talking loud and clear to people who are in the same vehicle as you - would help chopper pilots and passengers a lot).

ACRE is more for mil sim, they have radio freqs to change between like the 343 radios which are used for inter squads, then you have the prc148s for the squad leaders and fireteams, then it gets more crazy with the PRC-119 or PRC-117 radios for command and stuff. It even gets to the point where if your in like a valley, or far away, radios transmission gets fuzzy. It's pretty cool, but very mil sim and not as easy to use for new comers. Can't even compare it to our mumble. It simply blows it out of the water in terms of complexity.
