A lot of the clearings on the in game map for Saaremaa are a bit misleading, they appear to be potential areas a chopper might be able to land but are typically always hills or small cliffsides.

I think this map would benefit from making that clearer on the map. It's fine once people have learned the map but for those unaware of what constitutes a location a chopper can use and what constitutes a hillside or similarly unsuitable LZ it should be clear in advance.

It's a minor issue but I think it would be a beneficial optimisation.

Yeah. Contour lines would be lovely but probably a lot of effort, an alternative might be perhaps to add to the hill sides that create woodland clearings, put some rocks dotted around on them? They would then show up grey wouldn't they? Or at least partially, so people would then take them as unsuitable heli terrain.

In real life every clearing is not suitable LZ for chopper.

Case closed.

And choppers don't always need to land either. Just hover low and have the squad hop off, medic can patch the small damage that might occur.

Or just let the pilot land in the best lz closest to the insertion point. Or scout out the lz in advance. Recon!

I've never understood why PR eschewed contour lines for its maps. If I had to lead anything in Arma without contour lines to guide me I'd be utterly lost.

PR its always been you just need to know the map, but I remember there was a guy back in my PRT days who had some means through which he created contour maps. Was some NATO 1 guy I think. Those were pretty neat.

Completely separate from this, the main bases on Saaremaa are ridiculous. The choppers hit the OOB timer barely behind the Russian cargo ship yet the ship is so close to land that you ram the Cargo ship with an American chopper before you die from the DOD. In one round I saw the Osprey ram parked choppers and the Huey chase the Hind to the Cargo ship and ram it right over it. Its pretty ridiculous.
