Colorblind.

Post by Arotished »

Well, strange question but....to get to the point, I'm color blind and I have a very hard time separating friendly from enemy, especially in wood/dark maps where the enemy/friendly are green/grown (like RU cs CH). Its okey on insurgent map as there is a clear different between the enemy and friendly but the other maps...frustrating.

This problem made me teamkill in the beginning (just started to play 2 weeks ago) so I stopped being so trigger happy and started to look more on the map in order to see if the guy I'm seeing is a enemy or friendly but, that just ends with me getting shot as soon as I bring up the map because I feel that they can separate me from a enemy miles away. I know I can also try and look at the weapon BUT, again.....dead before I can make up my mind :P

So, I think I need to sit down and try and learn how each enemy look like. Do you have any overview on how each soldier look like?

Thanks

Arotished, first off, I think you have to learn by playing!
Secondly, I don't know of an overview of the different soldiers.

The problem is that every faction has multiple (partially very different) kit-geometries. So even if I showed you a pic of a certain USMC guy, the other one might look a bit different. As you have troubles with colors (I am not color-blind but also have problems seeing the uniform color sometimes) I can only advise you to learn to differ between the shapes. This isn't a 100% but helps a lot.

Your plan to make more use of the map is highly appreciated and in the long run that is THE way to go! After some time you will find yourself 100times faster on the map, know where you are looking, what direction you are moving, from which angle you should be covered while checking the map, etc. This will greatly improve your survivability and allow you to quickly check the map before you come into contact.

Another help comes from the weapons someone is carrying. After a while you know who is wearing what gun and you will learn to differ.

Imo the hardest to differ is US vs MEC (with the new kit geos) and French vs China.

I know if you get the BF2 Editor there's a place that lets you look at the different character models.

Tip for identifying using the map, always find cover before opening it, in fact if you make it look like you didn't see them, it works even better.

Another thing I find helpful is always keeping an eye on the map. Know which directions friendlies will be from your location and what objectives they're working towards. That way, if you see someone out of place, you don't even have to check you just open fire.

Finally, since you're color blind, I'd suggest sticking very close to someone else and just help them. Call out targets as unknown and let them make the final call. Or take on a less active role like medic, anti-air, heavy anti-tank, etc. That way you're responding to enemies being called out by the squad rather than finding your own targets.

I just check the map before moving somewhere and remember on which direction friendlies are, and then shoot everyone on sight that are popping from other directions.

Also factions have different quickly recognizable geometries(like US always have backpacks and insurgents don't). Or slightly different colors, shading, or patterns(like darker vests etc). You learn to recognize those differences eventually and act on reflexes.

REcognize movement animations, that shoudl help you somewhat. bring up your map when in cover.

If everything fails, play medic. YOu dont really need to worry about enemies and youll still be the great guy and helpful for your squad! :)

Hehe i had problem too, and i am not color blind. We understand u. U will get use to it, just watch soldier in motion! U will see US walkin little bit difrent then Russians, MEC have long barel guns, u can spot it on mile away, insurgent are walking funny no back pack,...

A lot of time i recognize them by this, but map comes always handy, like few post before, just look at map, before u move, remember friendly position and shoot everything!

But the best tactic is to follow your squad, and listen your SL, try to report contacts before u shoot, if u come under fire shoot back.
