I guess the main reason after all was that my ISP was fucking up and now resolved their problems. I guess. It's solved anyway, played 5 hours of PR straight without any issues again. Just like yesterday.

Good luck you guys. Really.

This may help:

I installed fresh BF2 and PR on my PC running Windows 8

I had the disconnect problem "connection to the server has been lost" on any server I went. I'm located in Iceland so I've tried both Europe and US servers

My router is a Cisco 1841 and I have GRE tunnel to the Office, being a network administrator I can tinker about with my routes.

I re-routed a single Game server IP to my (favorite game server) to go through my GRE tunnel into the office and out in London and everything started to work fine on that single server.

So in short:
Using the same PC with the same setup I have no problem connecting from London but in Reykjavik everything is messed up.

Possible issues look to be:
Latency: (drops from 130ms - 115ms when moved to London but I'm having disconnect issues on Europe server with less than 90ms latency)
ISP: Changed from local vodafone ISP to multi ISP service (level3, global crossing, Linx etc.)
FW-router: Changed from Cisco 1481 router to Cisco ASA 5510. (no special rules on eighter for BF2 ports)

ISP is Comcast.

Router/modem combo is an "ARRIS TG862G TELEPHONE MODEM"

Sounds like he is 'renting' his modem/router from comcast. like me :(
We were originally gonna buy our own modem/router that is telephoney. But we got the wrong one! :(

I recommend that every comcast user buy a different router/modem.
Make sure it's 'telephoney' or it aint gonna work! :\

Now, time to call comcast/xfinity for about 5 hours complaing, swearing, and fake crying. Should do the trick! :)

But LITO, is there any possible fix for this?? :\

Well, the best way to go is not getting a Arris.

But, to let you know, there isn't that many out there.

Here is probably the best one to get if you get a Arris.

DVM3203B | Ubee Interactive

I would say THIS.

I know you can buy just CABLE modems, if you don't want home phone service! :\
If you have the Comcast Triple Play, you must have a Telephony modem, unless there is another way you can have one cable modem for your internet needs and a telephony modem.

Look for telephoney modems on here.

DOCSIS Devices

Honestly, you could buy another Arris to see if that is the problem!

Relax. Deep breath.

Yes we know its BF2 aswell for some people. I think we have come to the conclusion that it is the modem. Either reset it and see if it works, or buy a new one that is not Arris.

I want everyone reading this to know we're dealing with various problems on one thread, some of them very specific to the individual setup, some of them with commonalities such as everyone with a certain type of Comcast ISP traffic monitoring causing disconnects across a wide variety of online fast paced games, and some hardware issues like the European Fritz Box modem/routers, etc.

What might work for one person probably won't won't for you, but the symptoms are so similar it's not easy from the end user's perspective to know which problem he is facing, so tech support volunteers are letting people post in this thread for a variety of problems.

ok, the fact that i can happily play and connect to a server for 10 or even 15 minutes or somtimes more shows that the network is fine, my mums bf is trained in cisco and works for Vodaphone interent all from home looking after servers ect, point is our net in awesomly set up and all of the problems/ fixes that have been posted i have discused with him and most or all shouldn't even cause a problem. seems like if anything theres somthing blocked or punkbuster or even a corrputed brocken or even a missing file within BF2. iv tried everything else so far. . how could not one of these ideas have worked yet?

Like LITO said it could be dozens of different problems and its just should the same symptoms as everyone else. Personally I have done everything everyone has said already with no luck. The only thing I have to do is replace my modem. I have a fantastic internet speed and I pay good money for it, but for some reason BF2 is being blocked by what I am guessing is the modem.

So try everything that has been already posted (i.e disable firewall, open ports, reset modem/router)

Do you have an Arris modem?

no i have a linksys E4200, this is rather annoying ahah
also i just read that steam cant give out real CD/KEYS, its on the support page, (well just for BF2 and i think any other EA game but not sure)
people, but i cant see how that could be it as i have never had it say invalid CD/KEY . . but it might be getting cut off by the EA servers? i don't know im just guessing here. but here is the link

When I read here about some DHCP issues, I disabled for a test the "dhcp client" service, because I have a fixed local IP adress anyway.

Some time later I got the known "connection has been lost".
I immediately checked the system protocol and found serval errors right at the time
of the lost connection:

All these messages just say, that the following services can't start because the dependency (DHCP client) is not available:

NLA (Network Location Awareness) (service name: NlaSvc)
Network List Service (service name: netprofm)

So I disabled them too.
Since then I didn't had a connection lost!

But it's a too short test to say it really fixed my problems.
I played about 3 hours since then.

Please test too and report back.
Only do this, if you have advanced computer knowledge, as it can
screw up your network configuration!

1. Make sure you have a fixed IP adress for your network interface.
Otherwise you will have no more network access at all, when you do step 2.
2. Disable "DHCP client"
3. Disable "NLA (Network Location Awareness)"
4. Disable "Network List Service"
5. Play PR/BF2. See if it still disconnects.
Edit:
6. Restart your PC before you test PR (to make sure the services are stopped).
