I recently started playing PR again and my gameplay sometimes gets very choppy, looking at fps it drops to 20s then back to 40, 60, 80.. Why is this drop? it seems to happen randomly or when Im in a urban area.
My specs:
i7 @2.6 ghz
6 gb ram
XFX 7870 w/ 2 gbs ram
FPS drop!!!

Re: FPS drop!!!
hello CoLdFiRe88
Framerate drop probably when ur looking center of urbans map , it is the problem of many people . The huge maps with many open building require a lot of resources i think .
I currently have an i7 [email protected] Ghz / GTX460 , I'm never below 40fps. When my processor return to 2.6 ghz , I drop at 20 fps with all clean OS .
I dont know if overclock is a good advice , but it is the only way that I found to avoid massive drops .
Overclocking was always beneficial for PR on all my friends computers , for all the processors i tried , +15/20 fps (e4700/e8400/i3 3210/i7 920/i7 930 , ect )
But dont overclock without knowing what you make , you could damage your processor .
also , you can find a lots of thread about ProcessLasso , game booster & optimizations in this beautiful board

Hi aI2seNIc,
I think you are right, I feel that my processor is bottlenecking the system since I got the new gfx card, I will probably consider overclocking sometime in the future.
But first I want to try the booster programs you mentioned, also if you know a thread on optimization for BF2 I would appreciate a link

Re: FPS drop!!!
Can you post the full specs/support readout? What kind of i7 is it? I'm guessing that it can run at probably 3+ Ghz automatically with turbo boost, so I'm hoping there _may_ be something other than CPU bottlenecking. I'm using a laptop with an i7-3630qm that runs around 3.2Ghz and I do not have much performance problems and generally desktop CPUs are much more powerful than their laptop counterparts.

Re: FPS drop!!!
Its a i7 920 2.7 ghs running at stock speed, I bought a 3rd party cooler for it but never overclocked.
With a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R MB and 3 sticks of 2 gb DDR3, I dont know how this setup handles OCing but if i can get it to 3.5 ghz Il be happy.
Any one know a good OCing guide?
then again I can run modern games like war thunder at max and it doesnt go below 60 fps, also as far as I know Turbo Boost is already implemented and running. maybe its my old hdd thats slowing me down...

Re: FPS drop!!!
here is one of the better guides to OC your CPU:
Guide to Overclocking the Core I7 920 or 930 to 4.0ghz
Your MoBo is a "enthusiast" mobo, it's made to be OC'ed.
You have all the equipment, you now must find the will to step up your game(ing experience).

here is a guy who has near exact same mobo/cpu combo:

here is another guide for your cpu/mobo combo:

there are two version of i7920 , D0 are more recent and do a better overclock with less Vcore , you need to know which version you own with CPU Z .
Here my setting for example :
i7920 Rev. CO @ 3.4
Cpu clock Ratio X 20
BCLK Freq 170
Vcore 1.26875 V
i7920 Rev. DO @ 3.6
Cpu clock Ratio X 21
BCLK Freq 170
Vcore 1.10625
and always :
Hyperthreading Disable
Cpu Spread spec Disable
& i set the ram timings and voltage in the bios .
do slowly with vcore which can damage the processor and always check the 4 Cores temperature with a program as realtemp .
