PR 1.0: Connection to Server Lost

Post by Vision_16 »

I just started having issues trying to play PR 1.0 today. I haven't played in about 3 days, but no updates have come out since then, so I don't know what changed.

I will join a server, and within 1-3 minutes, the screen will freeze for a couple seconds, kick me back to the PR main and say "Connection to the server has been lost." I am having no other internet issues and can play other games just fine. I have tried BF2 Cleaner, updating Punkbuster, allowing all applicable programs on my firewall, as well as another fix listed in a Vista Connection thread on here having to do with "services.msc."

Anything I can do?

I just had this issue on CIA.

What is your Router's company?
What is your ISP? (Who provides you with internet)

I'm having it on all servers. I believe I have a Netgear router and Comcast ISP.

Just had this problem today as well.. Can't play PR because of this.. I'll join a server watching my ping (60-69) steady and then freeze for like three seconds and it kicks me to the server list saying Connection to the Server has been lost.. Help!

Same problem here, disconnect after less than one minute after joining the game, just started today, was fine until now. Only thing we seem to have in common so far is using Win 7. Might try a reinstall later if it don't fix itself.

EDIT*

Reinstalled PR (Not BF2) and it fixed it for about half an hour. Then it happend again, and I don't really have the energy to keep try more today. But you guys might. Going from about 3 seconds on the server to 30 min before kick might be worth it.

Thanks for being the guinea pig on the reinstall ;-) I would rather have a more permanent fix if it is possible though...

As for netgear router: you might want to try to disable security features that might be enabled (ie something like "flood protection" / "DOS protection")
'[R-COM wrote:MaSSive;1723874']Its most probably your router messing with some ports. If it has integrated firewall just disable it or go here and use this port list as a guide to setup bf2 port forward properly.
Try doing that, but instead of go here from the quote go here instead. You need to know your correct model of the Netgear router, and select port forwarding for BF2.

My router (SRXN3205) is not listed on that site. How do I forward the ports then? I have no knowledge at all about routers/internet/etc, so I'm really in the dark here.

Do you think this is the solution or could this problem be something else?

Is this your router?

Do you have anyone else using this router/managing it? This is a bit high end router with VPN/firewall messy stuff, so you better find some experienced tech to have a look at it, if you cant handle it. Ask the support staff from your ISP how can you forward ports, turn off firewall, and DDOS protection. Sure they'll tell you not to do it, but this can be a problem, so its either safety, or gaming...

Also there are great guides and useful tools on this site > Open Port Check - PortForward.com

Yeah, so after more testing; reinstalling PR might just have fixed it, just played for an hour without any crashes. Or it might have been a router restart overnight that fixed it.

So try reinstalling PR before doing any advanced stuff.

He has connectivity issues not crashes or anything alike, so why would he do reinstall. Still, you can try but I dont see the need for it.

Yes, that's my router. Basically, my mother's computer is the "base" of the network, and my father's, brother's, and mine are all sub-networks of the main. I don't think I have tried a router restart yet, so I may try that with a PR reinstall before I mess with any of the indepth router stuff.

And you wouldn't call freezing and getting kicked to main menu a crash? I don't see it as connectivity if the rest of my computer has no internet problems. Or does the router work so that a certain program (i.e. BF2) has separate channels (ports?) to connect?

Well you have got a point, but remember, software=magic. Restart and reinstall should be a first step.

Counterpoint: why would we suddenly need to portforward when it worked before, without any network variables having changed?

But sure, portforwarding is still relative easy to do and undo, and can't really break anything, so he should do that if reinstalling won't help.

Cause its been proven in the past that some advanced routers with advanced protection systems, and firewalls can block certain features of some games, like UDP ports or flag some requests as DDOS attacks and block it permanently. The most common issues are with Netgear routers.

Do what you think is best, but unless you CTD its not a crash its connectivity issue.

A lot of computer stuff is like  to me

Currently reinstalling and I will reset my router afterwards. I'll report back and see if this helps in a couple hours.

Reinstalled and reset my router. Played for about 45 minutes (left on my own will) on NwA on Al Basrah and it seemed to have fixed the problem FYI.
