[PR 1.0.36.0] APCs and Tanks too silent
Vehicles are still so quiet... LAV and AAV for example are just inaudible. I have a good sound set up with effects up to 100% and I can't hear a LAV parked 50m away from me.

Re: Tanks
Makes me think of Saving Private Ryan when they can hear the Panzer tanks from something like a mile away. Sort of like listening to a distant train.

Which is for sure realistic! Depending on the wind some sounds can be heard from very far away.ShockUnitBlack wrote:Makes me think of Saving Private Ryan when they can hear the Panzer tanks from something like a mile away. Sort of like listening to a distant train.
As it is now, the LAV is just a stealth APC.

I've noticed this on Falujah West yesterday. Lav was also around 50m away and I was on foot and it just appeared before I heard it.

yeah I gotta say with the underpowered IEDs, limited HATs, and plain realism, I did not get the decrease in volume for the last patch at all. The range of the volume should be decreased but not the volume itself... so maybe some more bass in the sound to give it the illusion of being louder while keeping the range from bleeding all over the map. I play apcs all the time and would normally be for anything that helps armor but after playing infantry since the beta, I didn't understand the decrease at all.

The US Abrams is pretty noisy imo.
But the LAV is a stealth apc. No doubt about that!
I think that the Challenger is a little bit to quiet too.

Thing is youre comparing them with 0.98. Those were really wrong. Now I can still hear an apc loud enough from 500 meters. If I can, so can you.
Have been raising the distance volume and dunno if that got into this current version. Then it will be in the next update.

Now that is so wrong. Well maybe not when 99 people are fireing things around you. Closeup explosions goes off and distance explosions play at the same time. Then.....I wouldnt be able to hear an air-siren 50m away. And you mention an idle sound?nAyo wrote:I can't hear a LAV parked 50m away from me.

Re: [PR 1.0.36.0] APCs and Tanks too silent
I think it is good that the general volume of vehicle engines is being lowered in relation to gunshots and explosions. It is obviously more realistic that gunshots trump all other sounds.
All the sounds have maybe not been normalized yet in relation to each other, but it is obviously not easy to do in such a old, limited game engine.
So let's all have some patience and give Anders a chance to work out the kinks. The changes to volumes will initially sound very drastic, but we should just take some time to adjust to it. Then we can discuss whether it is better (more realistic) or too detrimental to gameplay.

I don't know, while I can hear vehicles over long distances, it seems like the sound sample used is always at the same level. I could swear an IFV 300m away is just as loud as one 50m away. You sure there isn't some kind of bug that does not alter the sound level?
This is the impression I've got, I might be wrong but it never happened before that vehicles literally snook up on me.

Well, I can make the difference between this, and a situation where it's pretty calm and quiet around me and I still can't hear it.[R-DEV]-=anders=- wrote:Now that is so wrong. The LAV is way too quiet it's obvious, same as the AAV or the stryker while hey are pretty loud IRL.
I feel the same as Brainlag, I think it seems pretty buggy and even if you say .98 was 'wrong' it was more relevant : vehicles were loud enough, could be heard from further away, and were being louder as they were coming closer.

Anders now I see what you meant before. You were right, if you will decrease sound of engines for the sake of turret fire people will complain how silent it is.
You were totaly right, there is nothing we can do until PR moves to another engine which will automatically set some sounds higher and some lower, depending on situtation.

videos ftw - helps anders and other DEVs a lot to analyse that stuff.
