Win XP / Win 7 - Can't find why SO LOW FPS after update 0.98-1.0

Post by [UAGs] fs_more »

After PR updated to 1.0 I received fatally low FPS (from 45-60 on HI -> 15-20 on Low with freezes)

One of the problems was Outpost 3.51 (462). Updated to 8.1 on XP.
On Win7 only build-in active.
Current results:
on XP have 15-20 FPS (full server) at "all Low"
on Win7 have 15-30 FPS at "Medium", no freezes

Tried to profile PRBF2.exe with Kernrate (WinDDK):

Code: Select all

Hm yeah. I had the same graphics ( evga 8800GTS 320MB/320bit ) and had problems running PR on some maps, so I had to upgrade. At the time, I bought NV GTS450 with 512MB GDDR5 and I still run it on high. Not much big frame rate, but its enough to play nice.

I think its your main issue, nothing else.

i thought the same before tested GF650Ti 2GB in this system. Result was the same - 15-22 FPS after spent $170. The problem is not in video adapter.

Your talking about update. Have you removed previous version of PR COMPLETELY from your system prior to installing PR 1.0?

I see you're computer literate enough so you have all drivers and updates installed?

Also try to clear shaders cache, and server history. You can do it from Support menu > Utilities from PR Launcher

Hm you wrote on XP on LOW, there is no Low option offered in PR Launcher, only Medium and High.

Well if youve done it all Ive got nothing else to share, that can be helpful to you. 15-30 FPS is not that bad and is playable. Im not hitting more than 60 anyway.

Im confused now are we talking about system from the specification posted for both OS or is old PC on XP and new on Win7 with new mainboard, graphics and all the stuff?

PRBF2.exe runs as a single threaded operation, and the Devs have added alot of new code to that single thread, it's probably a CPU bottleneck for you.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the ne Haswell system.

Not that you want to spend money on your old system, but a C2D E8400 or something like that could extend the life of that old PC for a bit, ...

yes, HW config the same for both OS (dual boot from diff partitions)
i set Low in Video TAB for all parts (geometry, effects...) in Launcher and now on main TAB video settings shown as LOW (screen below)

So there IS low option ))

15-30 not so bad? 30 is when im looking on air ) mean is about 18 FPS + freezes
so i cant shoot fine even in short distances
i even dont think about to fly - its a kind of impossible mission

i know that my CPU now is not enough for PR (but was in 0.9 8)
the question is WHY and HOW optimise PR/system to let them go smoothly

btw, C2D E8400 not compatible with that MB, PD 9xx was the last comp series of CPU for it (BIOS limitation, no new versions, thanks asus)

IM sorry but for some reason when I imported my profile recently from BF2 ( I came back recently to PR ) only available preset in Video Options for me were Medium and High. I had some trouble with it, and I deleted the profile and retrieved it from gamespy and now I have all available options, so it my mistake I wasn't looking right.

Yeah no upgrades to C2D, that really sucks.

any other ideas that hangs FPS in 1.0?
one thing i can try - change onboard NIC to intel's Server-level adapter with CPU off-load tech's. can it help?
or one more thing i'm not tried yet - /3GB option in boot.ini
does anyone have result of how FPS depends on changing normal RAM settings to /3GB mode?
