I am however against what was proposed, which was the ability to confirm your kill by shooting or knifing the body. Shooting would just make it too easy (even if somewhat realistic) as you could finish the soldier from a distance, while knifing would just be a very violent act and both against the rules of the Geneva Convention.
This is why I would propose for the restrainers to be added to all factions (not only in the insurgency mod) which would be used to arrest a wounded soldier / down & awaiting revive. You would use the restrainer right next to the body which would make him go dead dead as if he had been captured and was now a POW being treated by your forces.
This would be great instead of having to cover the bodies for 5 minutes due to the high probability of them being revived in the current release.
Not every kit has an available slot to add the restrainers and we wouldn't want to replace the knife/bayonet/melee in every single kit so only some kits would get the restrainers. These could be the Rifleman kit and the Medic (which would be treating the wounded POW) at least, but I'm sure other kits might also have available slots.
In terms of the unconventional forces using the restrainers... I'm sure you could get the plastic straps to be used as restrainers and even though they look slightly different than the real restrainers, the current ones could be used as placeholders for now.
This should be possible with adding one simple line of code:
ObjectTemplate.damageMandownSoldiers 1
Someone more experienced in BF2 code can perhaps confirm if it would work or not. But I heard that this has been used in the FH mod already.
What do you guys think? And more importantly, what do the Devs think?
