Pilot class?
Will there be a pilot class in PR? or will every dingleberry be able to fly an aircraft?
I think it would be better to have a class with a limit ofcourse so people cant fight over planes.
Maybe a wingman for the planes too?

Ya, spoken of a lot, but never confirmed. Godwilling, BF2 will allow for a code such as "only pilot kit can enter pilot seat of aircraft." Definetely a needed feature for PR. I even like the idea of a "tanker" class, the only class that can drive or operate gunnery in complex vehicle (apc, tank).
Pilot would carry and MP5 (maybe pistol? dunno realism) and if ejector seats can be implemented, NO parachute. Jet pilots eject, heli pilots go down with the ship.
Tanker would carry whateve is realistic (I think pistols, and an m4 with not much ammo), and maybe a really really weak wrench.

Re: Pilot class?
Yes, we will have Aviator (rotary and fixed wing) and AFV Crewman kits on appropriate maps. As for whether or not we can fix it to make it so those specific classes can occupy crew positions, we'll have to see; as you may know, EA delayed the release of the mod tools. We can tell you for sure that not everyone will have parachutes, however.3FJ_Werner wrote:Will there be a pilot class in PR? or will every dingleberry be able to fly an aircraft?

Wingman? A wingman is the pilot of an aircraft you are paired with. Are you thinking of a "back-seater" like a weapon systems or radar intercept officer?
Aviators and aircrewman are only issued sidearms and perhaps one M16 for a transport helicopter crew of 3 or 4. In 160th SOAR the pilots may have MP5s in addition to sidearms and probably an M4 in the aircraft for the crew chief or gunner.Figisaacnewton wrote:Pilot would carry and MP5 (maybe pistol? dunno realism) and if ejector seats can be implemented, NO parachute. US tank crews were issued with one M16 per 4-man crew and all had sidearms. With the easier to stow M4 this may be changing. Bradley Fighting Vehicle crewmen are infantrymen or cavalry scouts trained to operate the IFV/CFV and still have rifles.

MH-60 is only referred to as Pave Hawk in the USAF, specifically the MH-60G/HH-60G variant. 160th SOAR flies the MH-60L and MH-60K Blackhawks, and the Navy will eventually have the MH-60S Knighthawk. Right now, the HH-60H Seahawk is their special operations support/CSAR helicopter.Ugly Duck wrote:Special Operations Aviation Regiment
They fly the AH/MH-6 little bird, MH-60 Pave Hawk, MH-47E chinook, MC-130 Talon, AC-130 Specter. I think I'll let eddy take over from there... I can't remember too much from the Disc channel. I think they fly the MH-53, but it may be another variant.
Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) has the fixed-wing assets, like the AC-130H/U Spectre/Spooky (difference is slightly different armament configuration) and the MH-53M Pave Low. H-53 is not used by the Army, but is used by the other services in the form of the Navy MH-53E Sea Dragon (mine countermeasures) and Marine CH-53E Super Stallion.

i personally love the idea of tanker classes, but if that was implemented would that elimanate the eng class? because engs are very important for defense and would be god to have to do repairs to vehicles.... well if we still use a class to repair.

Then it would make sense if ONLY pilots were given parachutes. I had a hard time swallowing the fact that normal soldiers would parachute out of a black hawk in the demo, I mean, come on! And the short jump distance would certainly have killed them if they had tried that stunt in real life.
Oh, and hows about the good old Chinook? That'd make troop transport a whole lot easiere.

Yes, that would be nice.[R-DEV wrote:Eddie Baker]

like ammo or repairs or something?....thats what a wingman would provide if he was an engineer or a supply infantry; since wingmen pilots other planes.

hey, how about fuel for the planes and choppers! No more running around for hours make them with small tanks that run out now and then you might be able to keep the number of base rapes to a minimum

i like the fuel idea and the idea of a backseat radio intercept officer for realism, but that might get kinda boring. i guess you could put them in charge of bombs and missile countermeasures. but then there might be no one who wants to be a RIO since most pilots dont even take the time to line up shots for their bombadiers, or in this case RIOs, if thats what they become.
