What is with the server crashes?

Server admins are the ones who have access to their own crash logs for the servers, hence it's in the Server Admin section of the forums. These logs are pretty matter-of-fact and opening it up to the public would only clutter it with discussions and opinions.

There is nothing exciting happening in that thread, it's just server admins posting logs and coredumps for the devs to look at, it doesn't have anything to do with being illiterate.

As far as the "war on server crashing" goes, all server owners have a stake in this since everyone knows that seeding is a bit of a pain, the devs know this and have been working hard with the limited material that we can provide them. There are no detailed debug reports to look at, it's all core-dumps and error messages that don't really point to an easily identifiable culprit, if it were, it would have been fixed by now. It seems that dbzao especially is making some headway here but it is not an easy process.

Sometimes it just happens. Sometimes its due to bugs like the Ramiel UAV bugs. More recently there have been several ddos. What is often the key factor from what I know is too much happening at once that the server is in a way overloaded.

Im not asking to read your server logs brezmans. In my most humble opinion, I think this thead should be ok to discuss the SERVER CRASHES which affects a lot of people who play everyday and may have something to add other than wagging their admin credentials around (been there, done that). Is that ok with you Brezmans?

On to the topic at hand. I have nothing but misery playing this game and now it's down to regular crash disconnects in every server. Once that I remember was when I requested a grenadier kit from a crate. Others just seem random.

Reminds me of the Bush years.. and that old meme.. if we discuss said topic the terrorists will win.

I don't know how why you want to put a pretty face on it. It is a bit odd that every time issues such as this comes up we dance around it. Yes we know that the admins and the DEV's are working very hard to this issue (and we are very, very appreciative of it) but I don't see why us minions are treated like we are causing a problem talking about it as regular gamers with a well known issue.

Please tell us the name of the server that never crashes, I want to play on that server.

Tactical Gamer was an Excellent Server. Yeah that's right, I said that, go a head and BAN ME from your server now!

I don't see anyone of the Devs putting a pretty face on it.
AFSoccer clearly said that the team knows about the issues and they are working on it.

I also see nothing that makes me think we should't talk about it here and apparently this thread still exists and has not been closed down.

The crash logs are posted in the SA area cause this is simply the place where they belong.

At the risk of sounding condesending, if you'd like to contact [R-DEV]AFsoccer with your analysis I'm sure he's all ears.

Yes there are issues with server crashes, yes some servers are experiencing more than in past releases. The value of discussing them in an open forum is the thing in question imo (i.e; unless you are able to contribute to the solution are you really helping - or are you putting unneeded pressure on those that are?)

That crash log shows you exactly where it crashed, not hard to find out what caused it too.

Feel free to provide the DEV team with a fix if it's so easy for you. I'm sure they will be super happy about your help.
It might not be too difficult if you know the background of the crashes and if you have experience with the server binaries.
Just keep in mind not every DEV has this knowledge and even if they have they might have no time to take a look.
So every help is highly appreciated.

I doubt the stack is showing where the real problem occurred. The fact that the crash was in CheckServerAliveThread::run suggests that the server died and the error condition was not handled correctly, or maybe they just use segfault as a form of fast-fail if the server goes down. Either way, you need symbols to get anywhere, and unless the devs have full symbols to all BF2 binaries (not likely) it's difficult to know where to go from there.

This was my original point. I don't think it is helpful for some to try to speak for the DEV's and thus shut down discussion. But that seems to already have been accomplished.

Server crashes do blow. I hope you guys root out the main culprit so I can get my 80 kills with my SAW :-D
