It's not impossible, even with your gear on (happened to have training in it), but that works only if:

1) It's a very short distance. In any longer distance you keep accelerating to insane speeds until the power of your grip is not enough to stop you anymore. So you need to start braking in a very short time. Again and again. I imagined coming down from those high rooftops in PR without breaks, and started feeling dizzy. No way man.
2) The structure and material of the ladders is suitable. Those rusty or wooden ladders in game? Wouldn't slide even a meter even with good gloves on.
3) The ladder has less sharp degrees on it, but 2) applies to that as well.

And to mention, it is very clumsy. Not smooth as the games make it look. Just stating obvious things here, but I voted for removing it. Should make people think twice before they start climbing ladders if the environment is not safe.

Don't have time to read all of the suggestions ITT, but a stamina bar for a ladder could help?

Like you can slide for 2 or 3 seconds, but then you have to wait again. Just like with sprinting..

Idk, just an idea.

I think this needs to be looked at again.

There is nothing more annoying than seeing a sniper on the crane or hotel on Muttrah and a squad shooting at him so he just climbs on a ladder and warp speeds down it.

There really is no way a soldier loaded with ammo and weapons and stuff is just going to glide down a ladder. It almost impossible to do without anything on your back. Its just ridiculous that a guy can jump off the hotel and die, but if he slides down the ladder at almost the same speed hes just fine.

I think this will make people think more before climbing a roof, because now they will not be able to get off while being shot at.

Ive done exterior house painting over summer and was on a ladder just about every day. I would never try to slide down, and i have never heard of anyone doing it.

Main reasons why people dont do this. Even if you had gloves on. You will burn all the skin on your hands off, and most likely you wont be able to hold your weight just using your hands and feet squeezing onto the sides of the ladder, let alone have weigh on your back. Also i doubt any soldiers are trained to do this or do it very often.

In my opinion its just a arcade game relic left over from BF2 that bad snipers take advantage of to get out of really exposed and obvious areas.

Again. That ladder was not vertical and bolted to the wall every 5-10 rungs, like in that pic a few pages back, as well as in PR.

Having the ladder bolted to the wall being vertical is very important. You find a ladder like that with a guy doing the same thing carrying weapons and ammo.

Edit:
Heres the pic.

See those support bars going into the wall? They would break your grip if you tried holding on to the sides.

Trust me. So far no one on this forum has shown a viedo of some one sliding down a vertical ladder like one that resembles the ones in PR. Also earlier I asked for sources from a guy who said soldiers were trained to do this....still waiting on those...

adjusting climb speed with:

Code: Select all

Vars.Set ladder-climb-speed-mod 0.05
removing ladder sliding with:

Code: Select all

Vars.Set ladder-skid-speed-mod 1
You can still slide but its same speed as climbing, you cannot abort the sliding. These do not apply for ropes. (but those should be way shorter anyway)

having that out of the way, i would really like this added. :)
just a couple of days ago i had soldiers sliding down the 30m hotel ladder while being suppressed. It is just wrong. when you go on a roof you should be punished if your way down gets cut of.

I'd keep it. If you guys really feel there is a need for a change, than reducing the sliding speed would be the best option imo.

I'm fine with the current settings, but I'd also be fine with slightly slower ladder sliding because currently it's very fast indeed.

You can just let go of the ladder and hit the use key near the bottom to grab onto it again and save yourself anyway.

iirc this works for ropes but not for ladders. you cant enter ladders with use key
