It's possible to do. Not sure cities have ladders to every roof top to every building.
This might be hardcoded. Stand by for somebody smart.

removing ladder sliding would make the game unrealistic as it is very possible in Real Life
I've done it lots of times and it's just like sliding down a pole only wider.
I can understand you prefer slower targets but cities are often covered with fire escapes and most soldiers would do well to learn how to use them.

Ladder sliding can be done IRL, but I've never tried doing it carrying a rifle and all the rest of the gear.

Yeah it took me a good 2-3 years of playing BF2 to discover it. I'm sure I've seen troops do it before though (not on films!), can't remember exactly where. Can't see wy they couldn't manage it even with all the equipment.

Bump

I think this needs to be looked at again.

There is nothing more annoying than seeing a sniper on the crane or hotel on Muttrah and a squad shooting at him so he just climbs on a ladder and warp speeds down it.

There really is no way a soldier loaded with ammo and weapons and stuff is just going to glide down a ladder. It almost impossible to do without anything on your back. Its just ridiculous that a guy can jump off the hotel and die, but if he slides down the ladder at almost the same speed hes just fine.

I think this will make people think more before climbing a roof, because now they will not be able to get off while being shot at.

Ive done exterior house painting over summer and was on a ladder just about every day. I would never try to slide down, and i have never heard of anyone doing it.

Main reasons why people dont do this. Even if you had gloves on. You will burn all the skin on your hands off, and most likely you wont be able to hold your weight just using your hands and feet squeezing onto the sides of the ladder, let alone have weigh on your back. Also i doubt any soldiers are trained to do this or do it very often.

In my opinion its just a arcade game relic left over from BF2 that bad snipers take advantage of to get out of really exposed and obvious areas.

On the other hand it would be "realistic" once the adrenaline kicks in and dont have time to think, rather choose a hard impact on the ground than getting shot going down a ladder like a snail. Then again i've never been shot at going down a ladder irl ;)

I really doubt adrenaline would try to make you slide down a 8 story building ladder, its almost like jumping off. The longer the ladder, the more speed you get and less grip you have on the ladder.

P.S. I think the adrenaline argument is over used and stupid. People use that as an excuse for everything now  .

Were these ladders attached to the house(bars?)? or are you talkin extension ladders?

The ladders in PR look like the optimal ladder to slide down, I am however opposed to having the ability to slide down them, especially when its down the entire hotel.

They were extensions ladder. BUT they were slanted, which to me would make it easier to slide down actually because your not holding your entire weight, you can put some of your weight on the ladder.

Like this.

If they are straight down it way harder. And if you have a rucksack on your back just forget about it.

Just try holding yourself on a ladder just by squeezing your legs together and squeezing your arms together. Your applying force INTO the center of the ladder while gravity pulls you DOWN. You need really strong thighs if you want to try to slide down a 5 story building ladder and stop at the bottom without breaking your legs.

I think I have seen SAS and similar special forces slide down ladders as part of their basic training. If we are to remove sliding then we might as well remove fastropes :P

Keep the sliding, its a nice compensation for the players since its unrealistic to climb a 8 stories bulding on a ladder. The realistic thing would be to enter the top of the building via stairs inside of the building, wich do not exist in the majority of the buildings in PR.

Remove sliding, but increase the speed of descent when you climb down.

Agreed on the points, and gameplay wise a ladder on a roof is like a free ticket.. You know you can kill a few enemies and then when they see you just slide down in a second. By the time they get to you you're a block away.

I've tried laddersliding in real life. Beyond 1,5 to 2 meters it's crazy, even without backpack guns etc. Should be removed for realism. It will make it a lot harder to escape from a tall biulding when under fire.
