Time to upgrade

Post by FiveString »

I have been playing PR for many years and I am thinking its time to do some upgrading on the old gaming PC and I wanted some opinions...PR1.0 REALLY taxes my system and its pretty old. I am running a AMD 6000, ASUS M2NSLI deluxe MB and a GEforce 7950 GT. All I do on this PC is play PR and its been fine till 1.0.

I think the Graphics card will be first, whats everyone using??

old GTS 250, that is like 3 years newer than my 7950, I really think I need an upgrade..I am looking at the GTX 650, its a middle of the road card but should run PR 10X better than my 7950

^Yes... I made the mistake of purchasing badass graffix card without checking my power supply first. Needless to say, I was right back up at my computer shop and $100 poorer. Well worth it though.

And now, we wait.....

it also depends on your CPU and mobo. if they arent that good it might be no use, getting a better card, just to be bottlenecked on the CPU part or even worse, the PCIe bridge

can you post full spec?

You mean the AMD Athlon X2 6000+ ?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - ADX6000IAA6CZ (ADX6000CZBOX)

You're getting near end of life for that machine as a gaming machine, still plenty good for general usage.

For PR1.0 to be safe,
at a minimum, for ATI/AMD ... you'll need a Radeon HD 6770 to max out settings,
at a minimum, for NVidia ... you'll need a GTX 460 1GB to max out settings,

note that ATI/AMD GPUs use less watts to deliver similar graphics performance, if you're PSU is not giving you that much headroom, I'd suggest leaning toward the AMD?ATI GPUs.

Yes I am using the X2 6000+, I knew it was near the end for this machine a year ago. I am good on the PSU I have a 750 Watt Antec I just added. I guess I better just bite the bullet and replace the MB, video and processor......thanks for all the responses!!
