Mines/Eng

Post by keef_haggerd »

What will engs be like in this mod?

Also i dont think mines should be these big black marks on the ground, thats WAY too obvious, you dont lay mines like that! you camoflaouge them or plant them underground. id like to see this in the mod.

yah, but then that brings metal detectors and all that into play, then you would have to tag the mines so team mates could see. Plus, you still have that pesky little skull with the bones tellin you to beware.

yeah i was thinking about that, well, if mines were bumps in the ground that were noticable to a trained eye, it would be fine, have an eng hop out and defuse them. as far as letting your team know about them, maybe mind could show up as a symbol on your teams minimap or something.

Yah, how about just different colored mines then..with the addition of the minimap warnings

you mean like camoflagued mines? because if in certain maps the mines were sand colored and others grass colored that would help tons.

its not vey hard here, you just make it so the mines collision mesh isnt the model itself, so it can sink under ground and only that little cap piece is showing. FH has it.

A "Hasty Obstacle" is one that is emplaced - obviously - in a hurry... they are very common, and usually include anti-tank mines simply placed on the surface of the ground. With the sort of combat that goes on in this game, any mines are probably laid pretty hastily. But...

It would be cool if there was a way for an Engineer to actually bury a mine if he wanted to, maybe by right-clicking to drop it, and he could only do so if he was prone, and the animation made him lay there for a while.

If we are looking for realism, a mine doesn't bury itself when dropped on the ground, a hole must be dug first, then it must be covered over. There are other steps to placing a mine as well, inserting the fuse, arming it, possibly implementing a tilt-rod, or even an anti-handling device... but that's probably getting too nit-picky.

You can only carry so many mines, so how about a dedicated Engineer vehicle? A good 'ole M113 maybe, it could be full of mines for the engineers to drive around the battlefield. They could hop out with a mine or 2, place them, run back & get a couple more. While we're at it, Engineers are always placing wire obstacles too, how cool would it be to be able to string up a row of concertina wire wherever you want? Let's see the Engineer get some more valuable contributions to the team! Give those "picket-pounders" a real job in this game! 8)

engineer vehicle would be cool. it would give engineers the possiblity to make real big minefields, with one curvy clear path where the friendlies go through. the enemy should have a relatively easy way to clear the mines as opposed to just having the engineer disarm them. that wouldn't work. i mean a mine clearing vehicle like the Sherman MK1 'Crab' tank from world war II if such things are still in use.

also barbed wire is a good idea as well.

We could stick a few M1's out there with mine plows on them, not specific to the Engineer, but helpful - and realistic! I'm not sure about other countries, but I'm pretty sure they all have something similar for clearing a path through a known minefield.

How about a MICLIC? An old M60 (anyone know if there's anything newer?) tank that fires a small rocket with an "explosive rope" fastened to it. It's launched out over a minefield and detonated, causing the nearby mines to also detonate. This makes a path through the mines. They are also mounted on a trailer that could be connected to the M113 that I proposed.

so, is there any engineer vehicles that well, could lay mines out the back while you are driving around. Possible a second person sitting in back lays the mines or pushes a button when he wants the mines to drop. Now that would be cool. The reload time on it would have to be about the same as a helo missle because you would have people running around htrough bases laying mines

well you throw down the mine the same way you do in bf2, then the mine sort of sinks in and only reveals the very top part of it, reducing the visible size by probably 75%, it makes them easy to camouflage but not impossible to see.

right, well, you'd pry have to dig that hole out to place the mine witch could take a considerable more amount of time and since i think most mines are laid in haste (e.g. stopping tanks immediatly rather than strategic positioning b4 hand) that anything but the other idea of different mines for different terrains just wouldn't work.

i think the idea of mining vehicles would be really cool, but i think for now, the best would be mines with 2 types of "shots" a quick one that just throws the mine out, then the camo shot where your guys digs through the ground for 5-10 seconds, puts the mine then puts dirt and stuff back on it. the rpocess would take about... 30 seconds to a minute?

DCX (Desert Combat Extended, for those of you who may not know the nickname) included the ability to spawn a wire obstacle for the engineer class, so yes, it is a good idea. :)

Some USMC AAVP7A1s are also equipped with the mine clearing line charge. The M60-based Combat Engineer Vehicle looks to remain in place for a while, as I think procurement was reduced for the M1-based "Grizzly" breaching vehicle.

As for the feasibility of this, not sure what it would do to the game to have so many interactive objects (the mines) on the map.
