New basic laptop

Post by gazzthompson »

Cost: 250-300 GBP
Use: Internet, facebook, basic webgames and maybe sims or other old/basic games.

I don't know anything about laptops other than big name makes but don't know what rep they have.

Suggestions?

At that price range you are looking for refurbished netbooks with Intel pentium or celeron processors, or AMD A6 or A8 APUs from mid-2011 to early 2012.

Other options is picking up a android tablet and buying a keyboard/carry case combo. That takes away windows based games, but you can then play all the Android based games.

For newer options find a refurbished one of these with the celeron or pentium CPU:
X502CA - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS
or something equivalent.

Always cheaper to buy from a private seller if you're willing to take the risk,

but here is Dabs.com outlet deals on ebay.uk that give you an idea of your options

Asus X102BA 10.1" Touch Notebook AMD A4 1200 1GHz 4GB 500GB HDD Win 8 Home | eBay

Asus 15.6" Laptop Intel Celeron Dual Core 4GB RAM 320GB HDD Win 8 | eBay

Oh god, please dont buy those AMD based laptops. Performance and reliability wise Intel is much better at same price point.

At my work we are buying cheap laptops for basic use and few new AMD's are so god damn slow that you doubt its new.

Go Intel, wont regret.

100% agreed.

My dad just got a nice HP laptop.

Win 8 64bit
8gb Ram
750gb HDD
AMD A10 CPU (4core) Don't know the Ghz.
(God knows the GPU) I think it's a AMD 7600g

It's honestly slower then my PC. Yes the processor is better then mine. I haven't tried PR on it. I will though. But the rate at processing a GB file is rediculous.
It took 3 MIN to transfer a 1gb file. (Movie File)

My Friend has a nice i3 Processor. It runs I swear 100x better then the AMd.

AMD has decent Desktop Processors. I like Intel a lil' bit better though.
