Great job!

Post by INVIS »

In short words: I love your work, guys!

Even though there were a few problems at the start of the 1.0, they were solved more than quickly and with the new launcher update mechanism, its really fun to apply updates, I love it!

From the menu music over the new play modes and vehicles, to the Somalis (Though i'd love some more authentic voices for them). This is just awesome!

That's all I had to say, please keep it up.

Agreed. Keep up the good work :) You're doing great and you're developing a great mod.

Finally back from work and vacation trips and relieved from ensuing "return" stress, I finally found the time to take a look at PR 1.0 yesterday in the Teamwork event on the NEW server. This is the closest "thank you" thread I could find, but at least I don't have to open a new one ;) .

While I'm still very critical on some PR "political" issues, I have to admit that 1.0 turned out great, aside minor nuisances. Managing to keep performance in check with 100 players while brushing up visual effects, animation and overall atmosphere is a fantastic job, considering that the limitations of the BF2 engine become more and more obvious.

An entire "Wow" on its own is reserved for the new sounds: The first fight was on Asad Khal AAS, and when 50vs50 guys engage in close quarter combat all around, the sound is plain awesome. While I only know weapon and machinery sounds from video footage and public demonstrations, it definitely feels much more "alive" and frightening. I also find it much easier to identify weapon types by their sounds, and hearing a heavy machine gun roar in the distance, overlaid by occasional mortar and grenade explosions is just stunning. Especially if you consider that this is not generic atmospheric background noise, but is the result of the actual actions of human-controlled characters.
All combined with the new sleek and clean launcher, integrated PR Mumble makes for a much more attractive and welcoming game launch.

The one change that I really consider a bit annoying is the inability to see player names. While I agree that the distance at which names are visible should be decreased from prior versions, I think a ~5m range should still exist to better represent reality.

This was done because due to the 100 people thing they couldn't get 100 names. It was either for some or none, so they went with none, to make in consistent.
