Battlefield 2 won't start
Hello all, after a 2 year absence I'm poised to rejoin the PR community but on my new computer I can't get BF2 going. Under BF2 version 1.1 I could join into the game easily no issues, I update to the 1.5 patch and now it black screens and kicks me back to the desktop. I've looked on the internet and they say to change the screen resolution under "profiles" in documents as well as screen refresh rate to solve this issue but it does not work, also I don't know if it will help or not I have steam on but I installed with a CD. Please help, thanks.
System Specs
Windows 7 64Bit
AMD-8350 Vishera
GSkill DDR3-16GB
1 SSD-256GB
1HDD-1TB
etc, so none of the hardware specs should be an issue.

Nope, I touch the bf2 icon and it does it. I started this computer build back in may and part of the reason was because 1.0 was coming out, I have it downloaded and ready to go and now I have to figure this out...

Re: Battlefield 2 won't start
Hiya, welcome back to PR,
1. There are a large number of overlay programs that can cause this. Steam overlay is one of them.
RAPTR, Overwolf, Skype, TS3 overlay, MSI Afterburner, etc.
Make sure all of them COMPLETELY Shutdown, not just minimized or running in background.
2. Is PR installed?
3. Let's try to run in windowed mode:
Please post your system specs from PRLauncher:
1. Start PRlauncher
2. Click Support
3. Click "Copy to Clipboard"
4. Paste everything in this thread.
Does vanilla BF2 offline singleplayer work?
Next, try running PR in windowed mode:

In BF2, If you crash at the splash screen, or the screen goes black and then crashes to desktop, try to start PR in windowed mode by following the directions below:
Edit your BF2 shortcut and put this in it
Code:
Code:
"D:\Program Files\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +restart +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
Dont just copy paste this, but adjust to your install location. Make sure you don't omit quotation marks or it wont work.
If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.

Re: Battlefield 2 won't start
ok i did so and it essentially says it's missing /common/textures/lightning (not lighting) so if anyone wants to send me that file i'd greatly appreciate it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bgk9o4irlx3w5rh/lightning.dds
If you know how to use WinRar or Zip, add that to mods\pr\content\common_client.zip directory in the textures subdirectory.
There should be the damaged lightning.dds file there to show you you found the right space. Add my file to your .zip in the right location.
I am also uploading the entire 330MB common_Client, but will take a while.

Re: Battlefield 2 won't start
I ended up downloading the 1.4 patch, uninstalled, and reinstalled everything instead of going from 1.1 to 1.5, and it worked, thank you.
