How to download project reality?

So, I read the instructions on how to download BF2 PR. I have bf2 patched to 1.5, I torrented the PR 1.0 download so now I have this file that I believe changed from an .ISO to an .exe (sorry i'm not too comp savvy) but now I can't open it. It asks to burn to a DVD but I dont have a 6GB CD. So i'm lost on what to do next.

Is this where the winRAR or 7zip part comes in?

edit: it's not an .exe it says the product of my torrent is a Disc Image file. Is there a way to not use a disc?

Either extract (7zip, winrar, etc) that .iso or mount it (daemon tools, etc)

you need to get a program which can open .iso files. I use Daemon tools but there is also Virtual clone drive.

Then mount the .iso file by rightclicking on the big driver(?) icon at the bottom, press mount image and find the iso file. Then the installation window should pop up.

I used winRAR..
Install winRAR.
Rightclick on the downloaded prbf2_1.0.29.0_full file and choose to open with winRAR.
Run setup.exe
Done.
(You also might wanna make sure your BF2 run correctly before installing PR)

As people have already mentioned there are two different ways of installing PR. You need a software that's able to open .iso-files, or a software that's able to extract files, ie. 7-zip, WinRAR, etc.

If you're using a software reading .iso file you simply mount the .iso file and run it. If you're extracting the file using 7-zip etc. you'll right click on it, extract it to wherever you want it to be placed and run setup.exe (I think that's what it's called).

You need to have installed a legitimate vanilla (normal) Battlefield 2 game patched up to v1.5 in order to install Project Reality as PR is a mod for BF2 and requires it to work.

Installation order

If you do not have Battlefield 2 v1.5 installed:

Depending on what version of BF2 you have, you may have to install BF2 differently. The end result will be Battlefield 2 installed, with the v1.5 patch. For the most common type of install, the retail version, you would do the following:

1.Install Battlefield 2
2.Optional: Battlefield 2: Special Forces Expansion
3.Install Battlefield 2 v1.41
4.Install Battlefield 2 v1.5

If you use the Steam or Origin versions of Battlefield 2, your version will be already up to date running BF2 v1.5, so you do not need to install any patches. However, if you use these versions, you should run Battlefield 2 at least once (just to the main menu, then you can exit), to confirm that the installation has been finalized. This initial start of Battlefield 2 is not required on the Retail version.

Installing Project Reality: BF2:
Once you have Battlefield 2 v1.5 successfully installed, you can then install Project Reality: BF2. You can download the files from here.

The PR:BF2 download comes in the form of an "ISO" file. In order to install it, you will need to either:

1.Mount it using free software such as Virtual CloneDrive.
2.Extract it using free software such as 7-Zip or WinRAR
3.Burn it to a DVD
4.Or if you are running Windows 8, you can just double click on the ISO and it should automatically mount to a virtual drive.
An example on how to extract the ISO file using any one of the above methods can be found in this image.


Once you have done this, you simply run the installer it contains (setup.exe).

If you downloaded the preload version of the installer, and it requires a password to continue, please visit this page for the password.

It is strongly recommended that you close all open applications when installing PR:BF2.

After installation is complete, depending on the choices you selected in the installer, you can either launch Project Reality: BF2 from the desktop shortcut or your start menu.

Congratulations, you have now installed Project Reality: BF2 and are ready to play. If you have any confusion over these installation steps, or something is not just working, please don't hesitate to post a support thread in our Support Forums.

Just remember to make sure you install 1.41 patch before 1.5!

You need original software, not sure about steam but origin will update everything correctly, no need to worry about patches and stuff.

Well other guys say you can play pirated but you need to patch game to v1.5. I am downloading v1.5 of game so I dont need to patch it. I will try to play PR with this torrent and you guys then should add that torrent it Thread "How to install PR".
I will tell is it working.
Then people won't waste time on patching game 2 times.

Welcome to the forums. I have to remind you of our forum rules: Talk about piracy is strictly prohibited. I removed the links, and I strongly suggest you to purchase a legit copy of BF2. Please do not talk about piracy anymore or I'll have to start to issue infractions.


On Topic: The Steam version will work, but you need to disable the steam ingame overlay to avoid punkbuster issues.

To the best of my knowledge, a pirated version will not work, because our servers all run checks to prevent that.
