AMD FX FPS drops into High 30s-40s from 60 Vsync, any advice to increase GPU use?

Post by X-Alt »

I am running an ASUS Matrix 7970 and FX 8320 overclocked to 4.4GHz, the issue is that with PR being based on such an old engine, it seems to force tons of load on a single CPU core (unparked already) and my GPU usage suffers, it drops to plenty playable but a slightly annoying. Do you have any suggestions to get to get it into higher usage (AA to 8x, etc)?

PS:HDD has been defragged, etc..

Yeah no. Welcome to PR.

For someone with a high end rig like yours (and mine), Unparking and overclocking are the only answers we have to offer.

If you have enough RAM, you can put all of BF2 into a RamDisk, that helped a bit.

Going further than that is very granular and system specific, you can shift the main PRBF2.exe thread onto a dedicated core, make sure PRMumble is on another core, and give PRBF2.exe High priority using the program I'll list below:
You can download BitSum's ProcessLasso utility,
3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, http://bitsum.com/prolasso.php
-- Start PR, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PRBF2.exe, BF2.exe, PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the PRBF2.exe and BF2.exe to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
Then you can also assign a core to each, but I've been told by the developer of ProcessLasso that it won't particularly help. The "Gaming Mode" option inside ProcessLasso will do that in a automated and more refined way.

----------------------------

Basically the same advice as above but I wrote it up differently, please don't start fooling around with Windows Services if you don't understand what you're doing:
'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd']Try removing all the windows UI graphics options, basically make your windows 7 look like WinNT, you can use this:

For Windows XP:Tweak UI - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

For Vista, 7, 8: Ultimate Windows Tweaker, a TweakUI for Windows 7 & Vista

and turn off all the windows UI stuff, like windows shadows, mouse shadows, maximize windows animation, etc.

Also try Razer GameBooster Razer Game Booster Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance to shutdown unneeded background processes. This will be the most important thing you can do.

3. Download Bitsum ProcessLasso Free. Make sure you download the correct version, Free 32 bit or Free 64 bit, Process Lasso - Automate and optimize process priorities, CPU affinities, power profiles, and more!
-- Start PR, JOIN AN ONLINE SERVER, alt tab to desktop, open ProcessLAsso window, right click on PRBF2.exe, PRLauncher.exe, and PRMumble.exe and pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrB.exe and give them default priority status of High, set the PRBF2.exe to gaming mode, and give them high or higher access to RAM.
If you are really good with PCs, instead of using GameBooster, it's time to shutdown services using this link as a reference:

I had previously downloaded it and unparked the cores. PRBF2 is running on 7, PRLauncher on 6 but mumble still has access to all the cores, so I will try that..
