Headset and voices
So just recently I got a new mic. Before I didn't have a mic and I did play PR. I jump on PR today and now I can hear everyone on my team talking. They are all speaking into my ear. They are talking to their squad and in local but I can hear them all. How do I make this stop. This didn't happen before when I didn't have a mic.

Re: Headset and voices
Jameston, you need to remove the Project Reality dogtag logo from your signature image, that logo is a trademark and reserved for Developers and Forum administrators when used on this website.
As for this problem, can you give us the make and model of your new headset?
Is it a USB headset?
Do you have a discrete audio card?
Some USB headsets are known to do this, we have fixes, but need to know which hardware you're using.
Sometimes it's a Run as Admin problem, other times you just need to reset your Mumble settings. Tell us which headset you bought and we'll figure it out.
In general,
start PRMumble, generally located in your Battlefield 2 Complete Collection\mods\pr\bin\PRMumble directory.
PRMumble->Configure->Settings->TICK the Advanced tickbox in bottom Left->Audio Input->
You can now see which device is your default Audio In device, it's either the name of your headset, or "default device". Keep the Mumble window alive, and minimize it.
In your system tray, go to the white speaker symbol, right click , go to Playback Devices
Make sure your headset is the default device.
-----------
If you unplug your mic, your audio input returns to normal?

Re: Headset and voices
I'm not familiar with the headset,
Skullcandy PLYR 1 Wireless Gaming Headset with Dolby 7.1 | Skullcandy Headphones & Earphones
We might need to wait for someone with more experience with the simulated Dolby 7.1 USB headset system to offer you advice,
We need to check your audio settings:
Open PRLauncher->Support->click the 'Copy to Clipboard' button->Paste the entire specs to this thread.
No worries about the dogtags, you're definitely not the first, nor the last to throw them on a sig pic.

Re: Headset and voices
I'm not certain what to suggest,
are you using USB or Optical cables?
I have to go do the XMas thing,
hopefully someone can jump in with a suggestion soon.

That should serve you as a lesson to never buy a shit 180? headset. You could've gotten a decent headphones and a mic for that money.

Learn English, kid. First of all Skullcandy are great headsets. Secondly I'm having this same problem and I'm not using Skullcandy. I'm using PDP Afterglow which have constantly reviewed well. HO HUM. Don't be an *******.Prevtzer wrote:That should serve you as a lesson to never buy a shit 180? headset. You could've gotten a decent headphones and a mic for that money.
@ OP I wish I could fix the problem as well, it's extremely annoying.

Re: Headset and voices
Prevtzer? Where's your Holiday Cheer?
Jameston and indrct, the problem is your headsets use the newer Virtual Dolby Surround Sound, (7.1 for Jameston, 5.1 for indrct), and I personally do not know how to fix the problem. The Virtual part is the problem.
If you guys drop down to 2.0 stereo sound, does the sounds from the game and Mumble get played back correctly, (vis-a-vis the relative spacial distance from the source of the sound) ?

Re: Headset and voices
Feel free to ignore unhelpful posts by unfriendly people.
This was historically an issue with G35 headsets, something with the USB based dolby emulation. For the logitech headsets, disabling the logitech sound manager generally fixed such issues, and perhaps it will be the solution in your case too.
Essentially the issue lies in the fact that it's not 'true' 7.1, and heavily software based, and that software based positional emulation interferes with mumbles' sound output.
Jameston, were you using the same headset before you got the microphone?

Re: Headset and voices
Ok, I will try to be helpful. I respect Skullcandy as a company because they're actually aware of their horrible reputation among headphone enthusiasts and are producing better and better stuff. But buying a 180$ headset from them still makes no sense, because for that same price you could've gotten the Sennheiser PC360 which is in a whole other league. Or you could've bought one of the many headphone + mic combos and still be much better off. Even the Koss KSC75 does almost as good as your 180$ headset, even though it costs less than 20$. That's pretty awkward.
As for you indrct you only lost 60$ buying that... thing. Also, I don't think you can call me a kid when your headset looks like this:

About your issue: I use virtual surround as well, as does anybody else with some sense and a pair of headphones. The difference is I don't choose to downgrade PR's binaural sound to 5.1 or 7.1, which makes no sense. So the problem is obviously in your headset's representation of Dolby Headphone. Turn it off and your problem should be solved, but also any sense of positioning will be gone (which couldn't be good in the first place).

Thanks mate, I know. I stopped playing PR for the moment because I can't play it with everyone screaming in my ear.indrct wrote:Learn English, kid. First of all Skullcandy are great headsets. Ok, then the solution will be found in your headset's control center... I don't know the interface at all so I can't say exactly, but look to disable anything that normal headphones wouldn't do, like the 7.1 sound, Dolby surround etc. Test again with that.Jameston wrote:No, I was using generic Apple Ear buds.
If you can't find anything, take some screenshots of the interface and post them here and I can probably track down the relevant setting. I'd prefer if you try yourself first though.

Re: Headset and voices
Jameston, your headset has custom software suite, it has quite a few options, you'll have to look through it to find how to turn off or change how the virtualized Dolby is processed.
