I completely agree! "Base rape" rules ruins this map. The US main is built for providing fire support to the other squads.

Next time i'm on this map for bluefor, i'm going to try to convince the team to ignore the valley and the south highlands. Thus move up north can secure the northern highlands, the reason being is if you move into the valley the insurgents can attack from every direction.
Thus if you can control the north you limit their the directions they can attack from a bit, well also increasing the ease of support for you guys that move into the valley.
Would be hard to pull off but if you can organize the team then your chance of winning increases by quite a bit.

The caches spawning on the south would nullify your plans, and if we're talking AAS you generally have to take and hold the low ground. With too many guys in the north you are allowing the insurgents free roam on the south and all the time they need to set ambushes and fobs.

I was just referring to insurgency mode, but also if the caches spawn south you still have the advantage your normally wouldn't have that being a foot hold on the map outside of main.
Meaning your teams ability to move towards and area is now easier if they set up ambushes, because now you can a more easily id direction of fire and return it. Plus having a secure region means you can better set up mortars, which if used right can make a huge difference.
But the entire idea revolves around the entire team working together, which can be extremely hard to do .

It's a wonderful map because of it's completely unique all-over cover terrain. And I mean both visual and physical cover. Thing is you can't just try to force your way through to the caches like you always see people do on insurgency. This will just render you in a never-ending firefight with endless supply of insurgents. Instead you have to lower your squad size a bit if you're attacking and you need to not fire as many rounds off but rather sneak in and only open fire at the cache until you can plant.

Blufor losing Korengal is only a matter of wrong tactics 4 out of 5 times. I do admit the left bottom caches are tough but those could be fixed by not letting caches spawn in the caves near the SW side of the map.

IMO a lot of the insurgency maps could be improved by taking some inspiration from the cover of Korengal Valley.

In Korengal US can have a strong hold on the valley by setting up the CROWs HMMWV in the outpost, but they need to watch their steps as soon as they get in the mountains. I feel like this should be the basis for most insurgency maps.

BLUFOR having control of the open areas but the insurgents would get a bigger urban area etc they could be better in. Basrah I think is a pretty good example of neglecting the insurgents stronghold from cover.
