How would I fix this without having access to my router's admin control panel?[R-CON]Psyrus wrote:This is often to do with an overzealous firewall or router blocking your traffic.
OK, that puts a crimp in the situation. Luckily, it's more often than not the firewall and/or antivirus on your PC that is the culprit.Titancraftz wrote:How would I fix this without having access to my router's admin control panel?

If you tell us exactly which firewall and antivirus programs you are running, we can probably give you the exact fix, quite a few people run into this problem.
This good?'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1973276']I'm not going to reinvent the wheel, so here's a really strange Buddhist English as a Second Language video tutorial on allowing a program through windows 8 windows firewall:

For your problem, You want to allow PRBF2.exe , BF2.exe, pnkbstra.exe and pnkbstrb.exe through both private and public networks.

To remove or restore quarantined items
1.
Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Defender.
2.
Click Tools, and then click Quarantined items.
3.
Review each item, and then for each, click Remove or Restore. If you want to remove all quarantined items from your computer, click Remove All. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
I have turned off defender, its stupid, not a real anti-virus, like malwerebytes or avast, so yes, no defender on my computer as of now.'[R-COM wrote:LITOralis.nMd;1973284']Yes, that is good. Is it working or not?
Let's try something else to test:
start vanilla BF2. Log in with an online account. Join an online multiplayer server. See if you also get the "connection lost" error message.
Also, WIndows 8 comes with a built in antivirus, called Windows Defender, it's possible, but not likely that the first time you ran PR, you did click on the allow program popup, and it's now set to block PR.
GO to the Windows 8 "search thingy" , type in Defender, Windows DEfnder should be found, double click to open ,
Remove or restore items quarantined by Windows Defender
I'm just getting my hands on Windows 8, and I modded the heck out of it to look and behave like windows 7, sorry for the vague instructions on searching on win8.
