1.1 Insurgent Mortars

It's quite disappointing to see the ins mortars nerfed. With the removal of the calculator, is this not basically suggesting that insurgents wouldn't be able to judge distance to target by simply using a map?

On the other hand, if it's to suggest that the mortars themselves don't have the capability to display an angle reading, these guys in Syria found a way to circumvent that ;)

Even the far cheaper combination of a spirit level and a protractor could be used. If not, isn't this pretty much saying insurgents cannot into mathematics?

I think you are speaking of this. This is a known bug and will be fixed next release. This was in no way intentional.
