Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
Hello,
I love Project Reality and played it very often back in the fall. However, about halfway between the release of 1.0.36.0 and 1.1.1.0 I encountered a bug where when I launched the game I would just see verifying client files and the game would never launch. This only occurred on online accounts. I tried reinstalling PR from scratch, which did not work. Last night I uninstalled PR and reinstalled the Desura version of PR and it worked fine...but alas, today I am getting the same problem as before.

So is there no solution? Well I'll miss PR then...

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
...
sounds like a firewall problem. Which firewall do you use?
Are you updated to 1.1.1.0 ?
Toney is suggesting changing your DNS gateway to the Google DNS service at IP address 8.8.8.8 ,
this might or might not fix your problem.

I'll try disabling my firewall and letting PR run. Also, I let it sit for about ten minutes and this happened:
Code: Select all

Nope, turning off my firewall didn't work, now I'll try my DNS gateway.

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
First a disclaimer: This is a C++ issue and I am not knowledgable in this language. Only a few guys on the PR team can actually troubleshoot this error.
Here is my best guess:
Guess 1: Reinstall this: Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 from Official Microsoft Download Center
Guess 2: Uninstall, then clean, then reinstall this:
Try uninstalling and then reinstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1
Tutorial:

Do not uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 2 , 3, or 3.5 !!
offline installer for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1
Download Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 (Offline Installer) for Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 SP2 Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 from Official Microsoft Download Center

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
OK, I both reinstalled the .NET Frameworks necessary and I also uninstalled my v1.0 install that was updated to 1.1.1.0 and installed the newest 1.1 install. One or both of these work because I am playing the game right now. I would keep this page up for another 3-4 days though, because this bug likes to come back after a few days. Tech support is great

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
Try JUST reinstalling the .NET Frameworks this time.
If this happens again, you might have a virus/trojan in your system affecting these system files.
Not much more I can think of, unless your antivirus is quarantining the PR .exe files.

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
So...I went to my "uninstall a program" page on control panel, and I did not see Microsoft .NET framework on it at all, all I saw was the C++. I did notice that I had 2008 C++, so I updated it to 2012. I ran PR last night fine with my 2012, but as usual with this issue, today I tried to get on and it got stuck on verifying client files again.

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
Well, temporary fix available: Since every time I reinstalled Microsoft C++ it would work fine until I turned my computer on the next day, I though 'what if I just keep reinstalling it?'. Many experiments later, I have a shortcut to the control panel uninstall menu on my desktop and the installer for Microsoft C++ 2012 Redistributable. All I do is uninstall, reinstall, launch PR. I am leading my squad into battle for the first time in 4 months
. By the way, this is the weirdest fix to a bug that I have ever seen, especially since you can use the same download of the installer every time. A permanent fix would be appreciated, but the reinstall process only takes 30-45 seconds, so I am fine just doing this forever.

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
what version of windows are you using?
Open start menu, search for msconfig.exe open msconfig
go to the Startup tab,
look for anything related to .Net frameworks
I got a feeling there is something in the Startup programs that is doing this.
----
Another way to go about this is to run CCleaner by Piriform, start CCLeaner, ->Tools->Startup.
----
And maybe try this:
Download Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center
some reading on broken .Net framwork 4.X

Re: Stuck on "Verifying Client Files"
My friend had this problem and I told him to delete these folders from his /Libraries/Documents/ProjectReality folder: mods, LogoCache, and dmp
It worked for him
It worked for him
